Five Gay Celebrity Zaddies Who Are Real Life Daddies

It’s 2022 and more and more A-List gay celebs are making the choice to have children. The M.O. of these ‘mos ranges from adoption to surrogates to marrying partners who had children of their own first, but, whatever the process, there is a lot of love to share, and we love that these hot men are sharing their love with their growing families. Here’s our look at our five faves.

First up, we’ve got everyone’s favorite Vanderbilt, AC Coop himself, Anderson Cooper. This silver fox is not only incredibly handsome, but also has an incredible build. No stranger to the gym, Cooper is peak Zaddy Daddy. Cooper has two sons by surrogacy: Wyatt Morgan Cooper and Sebastian Luke Maisani-Cooper. He co-parents them with his ex-partner (and forever best friend) Benjamin Maisani. We are so happy for this Queer family and watching their love grow. Anderson really made a huge name for himself during Hurricane Katrina, when he temporarily paused his job at CNN to go help the clean-up effort on the ground. You're in good hands with your dad, Wyatt and Sebastian.

Next we have one of Daddy Anderson’s best friends, fellow-silver fox, Andy Cohen. The king of The Real Housewives announced to the world that he would be welcoming into the world a new son, Benjamin Allen Cohen. Now three years old, Cohens one and two have been seen all over the place together, with Daddy Andy’s “Hollywood Walk of Fame Star” ceremony falling on son Benjamin’s birthday.

Then there is Karamo Brown. Though you no doubt know him primarily as the Culture Expert on Netflix’ smash hit reboot of Queer Eye, Karamo first hit the scene when he became the first openly-gay Black man cast on a reality TV show when he starred in The Real World: Philadelphia. Brown essentially fell into fatherhood. Although he came out at 16, he had gotten his girlfriend pregnant when he was 15 and she never told him. Ten years later, after his MTV success, he found out he had a 10 year-old son, Jason. He immediately gained custody as Jason’s father and began his journey on getting to know him and growing closer, even giving up drugs and alcohol. When he found out Jason had a half-brother Chris, he began the process of bringing him into the family too, so that the family unit would be together. We love to see it. Brown seems to be the model dad, and is also hot as fuck. Ever the class act, Brown also is very verbally supportive of the mother of his kids for what a great job she did stepping up to raise them when they were still just teenagers. Cheers to the whole family!

Who knew Doogie Howser would not only grow up to be gay, but would also be sexy as hell?! Darling of screen and stage alike, Neil Patrick Harris, or “NPH” to those who love him the most (read: all of America) and husband David Burtka have two children, twins Harper Grace Burtka-Harris and Gideon Scott Burtka-Harris. Both 11 years-old, the twins are actually half-siblings and each the biological child of one of the dads. Neil and husband David both fertilized an egg and then had them placed inside a surrogate. And because science is fucking amazing, it worked! And now they are one big, beautiful, family.

And now for the big one! One of the best gay evolutions to witness over the last decade has no doubt been Ricky Martin. Ricky was an early crush of mine, like he was for so many young, closeted, Millennials back in the '90s. He was sexy, he was stylish, and he was a great singer/dancer who put out some really great bops. He and husband Jwan Yosef have FOUR kids together, making them quite the big family. The pair have twin boys, Valentino and Matteo Martin, another son Ren Martin-Yosef, and a daughter Lucia Martin-Yosef. Ricky and his husband are generally very private about sharing photos/videos of their children on social media, which I have to say, I really respect. If I ever have kids I definitely would want to minimize their digital footprint as much as possible in those early years, particularly if I were a huge celebrity.

It must be so incredible to be a young Queer kid growing up in America today. There’s no doubt still constant battles to be fought, but those are battles we will always win, as we always have historically. But having some amazing celebrity gay dads to see as part of their early gay formation will no doubt be incredible for them to grow up healthily.
