Jordan Jayro’s Drag Race Season 15 Recap: Episode 8, LipSync Lalaparuza Smackdown

DRAG RACE

Jordan Jayro's Reviews of RuPaul's Drag Race

Hello, and welcome back to another review of the most recent episode of RuPaul's Drag Race! Last week was the sequel to The Daytona Wind, and she was cute! Mistress won the challenge, and Aura was sent home. Now her dead dad is haunting the entire cast! Her words, not mine! Anyway, this week's episode is action-packed (despite there being no runway category)! I'm not going to waste any more of your time! Let's get right into it!

The queens are back in the werk room after Aura’s elimination and once again, Loosey is complaining about being safe. I believe she said it “burns her marshmallow”. Which is probably the whitest sentence I'll hear all week. It was even brought up the next morning in the werk room. Clearly, the girls are not thrilled about Loosey making such a fuss about being safe. I would be upset too if I was nearly eliminated and some safe girl was complaining. A wise woman once said, "That's a lot of emotion for safe." If you know that All Stars reference, we can be friends.

Just like that, it's a new day in the werk room! RuPaul enters dressed like he's hiding a stolen TV in his jacket. The Dorothy Zbornak of it all!! I did laugh and teehee about the jacket at first. But the more I looked at it the more I started to love it. Am I getting old? Is this thirty? Remind me to set up a botox appointment after this. Anyway,  Ru tells the queens that for this week’s maxi challenge, they will be competing in a tournament-style LipSync Lalaparuza Smackdown! These are always fun! They waste no time on this episode, and it cuts right to the runway. These 45-minute edits are sending me!

Ru Explains that Bruno will pull a ball out of the bingo machine, and the name on that ball will be the queen who goes first. That queen will choose her opponent, who will then choose their song. And so on and so on. Malaysia's name is chosen first!! She chooses to lip sync against Marcia Marcia Marcia! I think she thought Marcia would be an easy target but not tonight! Marcia chooses the song "Boys Don’t Cry" by Anitta. I loved watching Malaysia try to do a high kick, then Marcia stepping in front of her and doing it correctly. She was flawless! Marcia wins the lip sync, and she gets to hang out in the werk room while Malaysia is still up for elimination!

Loosey’s name is chosen next! She does the strategic thing and chooses Spice. Spice then chooses the song "Do You Wanna Touch" by Joan Jett. I don't think anyone is immediately threatened by Spice, so she is an easy target for this challenge. Much to no one's surprise, Loosey wins the lip sync!!! She gets to join Marcia in the werk room. Of course, the queens shade Loosey for choosing Spice, and she denies choosing her because she's an easy target. Sure, Jan.

The next name chosen is Luxx! She chooses to lip sync against Salina Estitties. Big mistake. HUGE. Estitties gets to choose the song, so she picks "It’s All Coming Back to Me Now" by Celine Dion. This song is a classic! You have to look up Bob The Drag Queen's performance of this song! It is ICONIC. Salina slayed this lip sync, and she wins! Salina gets to go to the werk room, and Luxx is sent to the back of the stage to await her fate.

Next up is Mistress Isabelle Brooks! She chooses to lip sync against Jax! Mistress is not playing games today! Jax chooses the song "Tell It To My Heart" by Taylor Dayne!! This song is a drag classic! Something tells me Mistress has performed this song before. Jax has been a lip sync assassin all season, so I think she probably feels good about her odds. However, she did not win this time! Mistress is the winner of the lip sync, and she heads back to the werk room. The heavyweight champs win!

The final two queens left to lip sync are Anetra and Sasha Colby!! I’m wet already!! Anetra gets to choose the song, and she picks "I’m in Love With A Monster" by Fifth Harmony. This is easily one of the greatest lip syncs in Drag Race Herstory! I'll be watching this whenever I need a serotonin boost! This could have easily been a double win, but Sasha was deemed the winner!! It was VERY close though! Anetra is an incredible performer. I think I saw the other girls taking notes.

Now, Malaysia comes back to lip sync! She chooses Spice, who chooses the song "Don’t Go Yet" by Camila Cabello. Spice says she picked that song because she knows Malaysia doesn't really know the words. The gag was that neither of them knew the words!! This was such a mess!! In the end, however, Malaysia wins the lip sync!! Spice is still up for elimination!

The next lip sync is Anetra, Luxx, and Jax. They lip sync to "The Right Stuff" by Vanessa Williams. I feel like all three of them held their own in this lip sync! In the end, Luxx is chosen as the winner, and she gets to go back to the werk room! That leaves Anetra, Jax, and Spice left to lip sync. Ru tells the queens that Bruno will choose one final ball. The queen whose name is on that ball will choose which of their fellow queens to save from elimination. I smell a stunt! Anetra's name is chosen, and she has to choose whether to save Jax or Spice. Anetra chooses to save Spice, meaning that Anetra and Jax are in the bottom this week! Anetra could have chosen to save Jax, and lip sync against Spice, undoubtedly sending her home. But she chose to go against the lip sync assassin of the season! That's the kind of charisma we love to see on Drag Race! Jax and Anetra lip sync to "Finally" by CeCe Peniston. This lip sync was so good! In the end, however, Anetra wins!! This means Jax is eliminated and must return to the werk room, pack her belongings, and leave immediately.

This episode was wild and hefty! I would say this is my favorite episode of the season so far! Next week is a ball challenge, so that could change! Come back next week to see how I recap all those runway looks squeezed into a 45-minute episode! I'm exhausted already!
