Movie News: Goonies 2? Beetlejuice Kills. Horror Films En Vogue.

I'm your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little hungover. Ok here’s this week's movie news as I see it!

Everyone seems to be getting into the Halloween season early this year. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice kept its #1 box office spot this weekend with Blumhouse’s Speak No Evil debuting at #2. P.S. Have you seen Speak No Evil star James McAvoy’s body in this film? Damn! Deadpool & Wolverine is still holding steady in the top movies at #3.

The internet went crazy this last week when it seemed that a Goonies 2 movie was in development, with the original stars coming back and Steven Spielberg at the helm. This is part of an ongoing new trend of fake movie news from fake sites, even with fake movie posters that look like the real deal. While some fans were elated at the idea of more Goonies, in the vein of the return of Beetlejuice, most were in disbelief that any sequel could do the original justice. Well, it took a bit, but the sequel has been refuted as fake. It is not happening. However with all this buzz, maybe studios’ ears will pick up.

In reboots that look like may be happening. Demi Moore confirmed that there have been talks about a St. Elmo’s Fire sequel. She also said to her knowledge, the original cast is open to coming back. The original came out in 1985 and dealt with a group of friends (who eventually became Hollywood’s Brat Pack) finding their way through life after college. Is this a good idea? Given how difficult growing up really is, it would be interesting to see where this youth ended up.

In a quasi reboot, the movie Brothers will be coming out next month and stars Peter Dinklage and Josh Brolin as twins. Though the storyline may be different, it does have shades of Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s movie called Twins where there was a clear difference. The film will also star Glenn Close and Brendan Fraser. We haven’t seen Brolin in comedy for a while, so this might be a fun take. Or it could be really bad. LOL.

Girrllll, Jason Momoa has been called out by an actor who appeared with him on the set of the upcoming video game movie Minecraft. She said that Jason showed rude behavior and treated the crew badly. Noooo! He is one of our crushes. Let’s hope Hollywood hasn’t gotten to his ego.

It has been almost twenty years since Keanu Reeves starred in Constantine. Well, a producer has confirmed that the script for the long-awaited sequel has been finished. It’s been in development hell for a long time. Hopefully, we will see some progress, it’s one of the DC films we actually loved.

Shelley Duvall, who starred in The Shining and Popeye, has one last film coming out. It is an independent thriller and the trailer just dropped. Let’s hope it does her justice, she was one in a million.

Horror films are what’s hot right now. The teaser for Steven Soderbergh’s Presence movie just dropped and in an interesting turn, the film will cover a haunting from the ghost’s point of view. Justice for ghosts!

Anddd, we finally get a trailer for Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot, premiering on Max in the first few days of October. This is been highly anticipated as the story is great, the version that came out eons ago, not so great. Will they finally get it right?

One of the upcoming Star Wars spinoff movies (one of 1000) is Lando and will center around Donald Glover’s version of Lando Calrissian. He will co-write the film with his brother and he went on record saying that he wants to bring the fun back to Star Wars. Yes, please. The last few iterations have been messes. Let’s hope Lando has plenty of shirtless scenes.

Adam Sandler fans, you out there? Happy Gilmore 2 is filming. Original stars Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, and Christopher McDonald are all returning. In a fun addition, Bad Bunny will also play a role.

Well, looks like there’s more and more Dune on the way. Already in development, Dune 3 will not be a direct sequel according to the franchise’s mastermind Denis Villeneuve. The third film will take place 12 years after the events in Dune 2 and though will feature the same leading characters, will start a whole new storyline that can make way for a Dune 4. That’s a lot of sand!
