Five LGBTQ+ Charities to Donate to Giving Tuesday 2022

BREAKING NEWS

Oh, American capitalist culture. The Christmas/Holiday season kicks off with four days of celebration: Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, & Giving Tuesday. The Tuesday designated to charity and donation has gone global since its inception 10 years ago in 2012. This "Celebration of Generosity" began as a partnership between New York's 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation and is the only viral holiday that exists just to encourage people to do good. Today, the Senate passed The Respect for Marriage Act, a bill that protects/codifies same-sex and interracial marriage in landmark bipartisan vote. So if now's not a good day to give back to the community, when is?!

Scroll on as we spotlight five organizations you can give to in order to make a difference this #GivingTuesday.

Your Local LGBT Center

Whether it's New York, LA, Palm Springs, or Chicago, find your local LGBTQ center and give them some much needed money. Chances are these places are the biggest lifeline for queer people in your immediate community. Most of these organizations offer social, health, psychological, and community services. See the difference your dollar makes in real time.

Sage

Often gay culture is youth obsessed, and that's all the more reason we have to look after the elderly. These are the men, women, and theys that paved the way for us to live the out, open lives we can in 2022. Sage is the largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of elderly LGBTQ+ people and their caregivers. The New York-based charity advocates for this often overlooked community on federal, state, and local levels.

The Trevor Project

Gay teens need a lifeline. While society is more accepting of gay culture, growing up is never easy and being a gay teen comes with its own baggage. That's why it's so vital to have resources like The Trevor Project, the world's largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ youth. It's a service that gives our struggling youth someone to talk to when they need it most, someone to remind them that it does get better.

Center for Black Equity

Help combat racism and privilege within our own community by giving to The Center for Black Equity, the leading organization for Black LGBTQ+ equality. Through events and social programs, they focus on improving economic equity, health equity, and social equity.

Lamda Legal

I started the post by lamenting our capitalist culture and now onto our legal system. You need money to get justice in America, and if you can help those in our community that can't help themselves, that goes a long way. Lambda Legal is a national nonprofit committed to upholding the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and everyone living with HIV.
