Drag Queen Spotlight: Laylah Amor Talks Mariah Carey, Lardi B, & Drag Brunch

Hello, beautiful dolls and divas! It is at last time for another Drag Queen Spotlight! If you’re new here, this is the weekly series where I introduce you to an amazing drag artist that you need to know about! This week we’re getting to know the fabulous Miss Laylah Amor! I first met Laylah years ago when I was first starting drag. For context, we met at Rage Nightclub in West Hollywood. Which tells you how long ago it was. Laylah is so booked and busy! How did you get your drag name?

I got my drag name from my niece Layla and I love Mariah so I thought if I added the “H” to the end of Layla, it would be my own Laylah. And I wanted something sexual, fun, and catchy with class. So Laylah was it. Amor came from the fact that I’m so loving and the world needs more love. Because of my Hispanic roots, I decided to go with Amor. ❤️

How long have you been doing drag?

So technically I’ve been doing drag for 20 years this year. But professionally performing, I’ve been doing it for 8 years.

When is your birthday? How old are you?

So my birthday is 9/11. Right!? I know, I know!! It’s definitely a day but it’s most importantly my birthday. But I’m old enough!

How did you get your start in drag? 

I watched other drag queens in the club way back when.

Who inspires your drag (celebrities, other queens, etc.)?

Mariah Carey, female hip-hop artist, Lardi B, and all my drag sisters.

Favorite song/artist to lip sync to?

My most requested mix, “They Like Body”! It’s Lardi B’s “They Like That I’m Fat” with a comedy piece from Monique (“Just eat!/fuck a fat bitch”), to Megan the Stallion’s “BODY ODDY ODDY”!! It’s my body positivity number.

Have you ever hooked up in drag?

Definitely! Multiple times.

What are your hobbies outside of drag?

Sleep, sleep, sleep!

What’s the craziest thing you’ve witnessed in a dressing room?

This one is a hard one. I think every day in a dressing room is crazy! But I would say... Watching a go-go boy and queen go at it with zero fucks.

What is your current favorite makeup product?

Right now, I’ve been using a lot of Morphe and Hank & Henry cosmetics.

Do you prefer to do brunch shows or night shows?

I love, love, love all my night shows!! Although I do gotta say we make more money at brunches. So it’s a good balance.

Any advice for someone wanting to start doing drag?

Most importantly, just have fun and do what you love. Take advice from the ones who inspire you. Don’t forget who you are! Just be you!
