New Music Treats! What to Listen to This Week!

Hey, hi, hello yo wassup! It was a cute week, but most notably, we welcomed back our Hollywood Chameleon, Ms. Cyrus! Let's get into the treats!

On her first EP, Adanna sings in the opening line, "Cupid came and shot me in the face no warning," That is how her voice captivates you. She commands her song early, on most notably the plucking of a guitar, then background "woohoos." You'll move your hips to her voice as she beautifully blends neo-soul and pop.

Key tracks: "Babies", an opener so groovy about being so sure about your man you'd give him babies. I forgot I didn't have a uterus.

Endless Summer Vacation x Miley Cyrus

She told us New Year, New Miley, and we received a new project. Opting for a more traditional/commercial pop record than the previous glam rock of Plastic Hearts, our Miley has found a more focused sense of self in her thirties. Divided into two acts as explained during an Instagram live, The AM represents "morning time, a buzz of energy, the potential of new possibilities," and The PM means "the slinky, seediness of exciting trouble brewing in the LA nights, a grimy glamour, but also rest and recovery." The record spends a lot of time mourning and loving questionable parts of someone and how that affects her. Thematically, she knows how volatile she is but deals with it. She's a wild card but a good f*cking time, and if you can't deal, "get the f*ck up out her house."

Key Tracks: "Wild Card" is an honest ode that sums it all up nicely for interested parties and us involved. Forever may never come.

In my Singles Watch this week are some of the natives and new faces to the New York scene, my favorite up next Cali raptress, and artists promoting their next drops.

JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown have dropped their first single from their upcoming collaborative album Scaring the Hoes. "Lean Beef Patty" is as chaotic as the title cause if you eat a beef patty, you might as well have the whole beef. Still, it will have you as captivated as I was, from the sped-up mix of Genuine and Mario to JPEG dissing Elon Musk and Twitter blue to ride the beat as it continued to speed up and right into Danny Brown "spittin' fast like Busta."

Gaining momentum and more notoriety during the promotion of viral and significant hit "Taser In My Telfar Bag" with Cazwell and Trans actress and rapper Trace Lysette, Trans rapper and actress Chanel Jole (@chaneljole) spits "I never eva lost my groove, I'm not Stella" on "Clout Chasin" over a banging beat with the base up. Since 2021, she has collaborated with Baz Here, dropped "CUCCI," a 14-track mixtape on Spotify, and teased a Barbie x Ken theme collab with Pretty Boi Roq. Tap, tap, tap in!

I went to a Black Creative mixer for the art collective Taste of Sound (@_tasteofsounds), and a few days after chatting to Shane Morgan (@shanemorganraps) about his music and upcoming projects, he released "Back and Forth," a smooth '90s R&B influenced rap song. A rapper in his bag, if you will. A few plays and I am sure you will be rocking "Back and Forth" with ya, boy. A month later, at a Black creative showcase for the same collective, Trinity Giselle (@crimson.trin) sang on stage, and I complimented her on her spontaneous rendition of Sza's "I Hate You"; a few weeks later, she dropped her first single, "Poison." Her pen game is notable from the first line "All up in my feels, can't say that I ain't trippin', cause I still got the luggage with the tags and yo name with mine, I'm catching feeling as I take this flight." You gotta take your earphones out with the screwed-up face. IYKYK. Assisted by Tiffany T'Zelle on the track, they serenade us off over a smooth r&b beat, snaps, and the pluck of a guitar.

Lola Brooke is "So DISRESPECTFUL" on her new joint. I have been sleeping on her and need to run it back; she has had four solo singles since she released "Don't Play With It," which blew up in 2022. She's so raw; believe me, I wouldn't want to be on the other end of her bars.

Only a few more weeks until 6lack releases his third album Since I Have a Lover, and he gives us another track, "Talkback" about the peace he found learning not to retort back, but turning inward, but don't get it twisted, your slick mouth can and will get you caught up. "F*ck around and find out." IYKYK.

Christine and the Queens released the first single off his next album Paranoïa, Angels, True Love, To Be Honest, a dreamy and heartfelt easy belter about being open yet afraid of love. It will get me every time.

We are diving back down into the DJ world and mixes that have me in a chokehold.

Oscar Nñ (@oscarnn), a Brooklyn-based DJ and founder of art collective PapiJuice (@papijuicebk), released his second NTS Radio show. The first, which is plugged below, a mix of Club, RnB, and Jersey Club, he showcases as an excellent introduction to him. The second, you can find on the NTS Radio site and app, is a Electronica, Ambient, and New Age mix of tracks inspired by the music he listened to keep himself grounded while being on the move during his recent weeks of travel aboard.

Mix highlights: "Actin a Smoothie" transitioning into "Jersey Club" around 13:15

Josue (@jo_sway), a Brooklyn-based DJ my friends and I happened upon at the event space Elsewhere, and we got our collective lives over his blends that stack infectious rhythm and beats into your system. This mix is hashtagged Hip Hop, Techno, and Ghetto Tech.

Mix highlights: A glorious few mins of "In My Feelings," which bounces between Drake and Yung Miami @ minute 30 & the end kicks up in such a pain-stalking way because I'm like, "omg, I don't want this to be over," but there were 4 mins left, and I was getting my life!
