Extras: There was a double sided DVD cover and a slip case for the box to start off with, then some trailers, a promotional reel, and a photogallery. The biggest extra for most folks will be the three unrelated bonus scenes, great if you haven’t been a company loyalist and already have them, including Kimberly Kane, Jandi Lin, & Eric Masters in The Last Rose (10:09 minutes), Britney Stevens, Mick Blue, & James Deen in Big Butt TV (27:05 minutes), and Amber Rayne & Marcus London in The Chatroom (13:22 minutes).

Audio/Video Quality: The Pornographer was presented in a crisp anamorphic widescreen as shot by famed director Eli Cross for Wicked Pictures. Eli has shot for the company a few times in the past but I suspect this one was part of a package deal tied to their new distribution deal with Axel Braun, Eli’s status as the creative talent behind the parody prince well established more times than I can count. The art direction by Andy Appleton and costumes by Guiliana Mayo helped make the feature elements work, as did the models by Robert April and Mischief Marie. The editing proved to be very skillfully handled by the director himself, some of the effects used to tell the story adding a nice touch. The inclusion of stock footage and art direction made Kylie’s brick walled building look like multiple sets too, expanding the look of the show as a whole even on such a low budget. There was no company watermark on the lower corner of the screen and overall, the visual elements worked quite well even if the sexual encounters seemed truncated and short in length. The aural components were decent too thanks to Sound Engineer Estuardo Galvez and music by Porn Faktory, the modest separation in channels and dynamic range never getting in the way of hearing the vocals or ambient noises.

Body of Review: Eli Cross has made a name for himself in the porn industry over the years, his directing efforts such as “Corruption” showing he had the right stuff at the helm of a big movie just as his comic book expertise and skills have come in handy to become a go to person in the parody market. His long affiliation with prince of parodies Axel Braun now brings him back to Wicked Pictures, his latest release for the company called The Pornographer. In a sort of Ed Wood parody biopic, the director thrusts James Deen as a grade Z director who is forced to change with the times, opening up the world for adult entertainment in a very cute low budget feature. The acting was suitable wooden, the amusing touches all adding to the fun factor enjoyment, even the short sex scenes with condoms looking just right for the mood of the show, set in 1964 (a pretty good year I hear).

The company press release described the movie like this: “Eli Cross, AVN award-winning creator of some of contemporary adult entertainment’s most acclaimed features, is pleased to announce the release of his Wicked Pictures comedy “The Pornographer.” Starring mainstream crossover star James Deen, this smart and sexy DVD is now on sale at retail locations nationwide. Inspired by the professional and personal lives of yesteryear’s B-movie filmmakers, “The Pornographer” casts Deen (best known to mainstream audiences for his work opposite Lindsay Lohan in Paul Schrader’s “The Canyons”) as down-on-his-luck director Woody Salinger. It’s 1964, and monsters, robots and aliens just aren’t selling movie tickets anymore. Hollywood needs women, the more scantily clad the better. So what’s a young, socially awkward auteur to do? And it all comes encased in a retro-style O-card that showcases the film’s talented ensemble cast.” Here’s a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that condoms were used for those still interested:

Scene One: Katie Summers, a blond that fell off the radar awhile back after working with trannies a bunch, was up first as an attractive secretary, her distain for talent agent Anthony Rosano turning into a sexual tryst on her desk. Summary: The Pornographer by director Eli Cross for Wicked Pictures had the kind of low budget appeal I like out of late night cable shows on the SyFy Channel, none of the performers taking anything too seriously and the sex short enough that it might work with those who aren’t exposed to as much smut as I am so I rated the production as Recommended. My personal taste for longer and more explicit sex scenes is factored into that rating so adjust it as you see fit, the inclusion of some anal action and the likes of hotty Kylie Ireland certainly adding to the feature aspects and technical matters to keep this from becoming a complete rental. In short, The Pornographer showed that Eli could entertain without an expansive budget and as far as comedies are concerned, it had more originality than most of what is on the market so I suspect I will see this one again around awards time, I just wish the extras would have included extended sex scenes from the movie rather than half assed toss on work from flicks few cared about years ago.
