Grindr Is Giving You A Gay Wingman, Courtesy of AI

We know that things on Grindr can get a little wonky, have you seen our Grindr Fails? LOL. Well, Grindr must know that dating and actually meeting on the app is getting harder and harder because they are introducing a Wingman, courtesy of AI. This takes a lot of the footwork out of your hands by creating a system that will give advice on matches, recommend dating spots, and chat with other Wingmen to uncover any red flags and dealbreakers. Is this taking all the fun out of the Grindr hunt, or is it giving you more positive matches and saving you time?

Grindr is still working things out, and we won't see a Wingman until around 2027, so calm your nuts. CEO George Arison spilled the tea with the Wall Street Journal to talk about adding AI to the platform. This AI will be suited to handle those looking for long-term relationships as well as those looking for a booty call.

We know how much time some back and forth can go before you realize you are talking to a complete nut or their kink is nowhere near your comfort level. This AI will get to know you and can work out all the, pardon the pun, kinks with your potential suitor. It will also keep track of the conversations that go well with users you frequent. It's basically having an interviewer get all the uncomfortable questions out of the way. This is intended to cut down awkward chat and get connected to users who might actually meet up.

Grindr is testing things out with a very small group of users but hopes to test the Wingman with up to 10,000 by next year. To make it even more gay, they have incorporated queer slang into the chat so your Wingman knows what DP is, or how to look for a power bottom. Other dating apps like Bumble, Tinder, and Hinge have already instituted AI into their platforms, weeding out fake users and helping choose profile pics.

There is something to be said, though, of all the footwork being taken out of trying to match or hookup with someone. There is a thrill of the back and forth, what we call the hunt. Even though we might roll our eyes, we also do enjoy the funny times that can happen when a Grindr gay is just flat-out crazy. We don't like being ghosted, we also don't like getting insults or rude comments from other users, will this AI take care of that? Imagine their Wingman letting your Wingman know, "Thank you, but not interested. Good luck!" If we are using AI, are we really getting to know the person on the other side of the screen? Or is this just the wave of the future in hookup apps? Also, can AI get access to our user info? The platform has already gotten in trouble for that.
