Movie News: Flops, Superman Muscle, Wicked, Tons of Trailers
I'm your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little hungover. Ok here’s this week's movie news as I see it!
This weekend’s box office was a mishmash. Francis Ford Coppola’s $120 million movie more than flopped, making barely $5 million for its opening weekend. It didn’t even chart in the top 5. Ouch. Animated feature Wild Robot took first place, dropping Beetlejuice 2 to second place. Animated movies are doing well this year, following the success of Inside 2. Transformers One made third place, with a foreign film, from India, Devara: Part 1 making fourth place. Speak No Evil rounded out as the bottom fifth. Deadpool & Wolverine was finally moved off the top 5. There are already talks about a Wild Robot sequel.
Trailer drop! A new trailer for the highly anticipated Nosferatu remake was released to celebrate the Halloween season. This movie boasts an all-star cast that includes Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Willem Dafoe. For those who are not the usual Christmas Day celebrants, this will be released on December 25th for all you goth gays out there.
In other trailer drop news, Moana 2 released a preview of its upcoming release. New songs, new storylines, same characters. This is also happening at the same time a live-action Moana with Dwayne Johnson is in development. Is that too much Moana?
Gay musical theatre nerds! You better pee before sitting down to watch the first part of Wicked. The film run time is 2 hours and 40 minutes, even longer than the actual show, and that’s only for Part 1! This movie will feature added characters and new songs, but damn, that’s a long run time. More and more featurettes and trailers are being released. In our opinion, less is more and we would have preferred to be surprised by some of the visuals and pivotal moments. Don’t give the whole thing away before we even get to see it! Geez!
Comic book gay nerds, get out the Kleenex. The new Superman, actor David Corenswet, shared that he had to pack on 38 pounds of muscle to fill out the spandex costume. We will be watching every bulge and curve.

In other comic book movie news, Batman villains Deathstroke and Bane are getting their own duo movie. It will be produced by James Gunn. It is unclear if hottie Joe Manganiello will play Deathstroke after his own solo film as the character was ultimately cancelled.
In even more comic book movie news, Marvel is campaigning for Deadpool & Wolverine to be included in Oscar and Golden Globe nominations, including leads Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds for acting awards. Um, ok.
Following in line with a bunch of Disney-inspired horror movies like Winnie the Pooh and Bambi, Pinocchio: Unstrung is in development and will begin filming soon. To be honest, we’ve always found the wooden puppet a bit creepy. Now he will get the full horror treatment. The movie studio is also producing Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare and Alice in Wonderland.
Ok, this isn’t really movie news but it is funny. Did Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy have a love affair we didn’t know about? Of course, fan fiction has dived into this theory, but this fan mix makes it all too real. Talk about your dueling wands!

Even after a lawsuit between Scarlett Johansson and Disney/Marvel regarding the release of her Black Widow stand-alone movie, she is back with Marvel as an executive producer for Thunderbolts*. Scarlett has been doing more and more behind the scenes, we hope she doesn’t give up acting but we love a fierce woman behind the camera. The trailer for Thunderbolts* dropped this weekend.
