Male Chastity Cages
There's been a growing popularity of male chastity cages for use as a pleasure and kink play in the gay (and even straight) community over the last few years. Male chastity cages, commonly known as "cock cages" were actually developed in the US as early as 1870, according to early patents. Male chastity cages, and other crotch-restricting medical devices, were initially created to curb masturbation, as the medical field considered masturbation a leading cause of insanity and other mental illnesses. Incidentally, restrictive chastity apparatus for females is thought by some historians to have been introduced during the Renaissance era to keep women from having sex with other men while their partners were traveling. But especially in the early 1900s, the medical field created more of these devices for both males and females. And now that we know the benefits of moderate masturbation, the community has taken power back from the initial intention of male chastity cages and now uses them as a source of pleasure in BDSM and kink scenarios. We've definitely seen them popping up in kink adult content, with popular gay adult content creators like Devin Franco and CagedJock being strong promoters of them.
Why Cage?
The main purpose of a cock cage today is to derive pleasure and to build intimacy between the caged wearer and the owner of the key. In some cases, some wearers will wear the cage and keep the key themselves as a form of self-restriction. When two people are involved, it builds trust and power play between the wearer and the key holder that the key holder will take care of their caged partner and ultimately decide when the wearer has earned the right to pleasure themselves or be released for intercourse. In some cases, a set period of time or a set list of actions must be completed by the wearer before they can be released.
Cage play has also been credited for bringing spice and kink back into a stunted sexual relationship. Nothing says romance like locking up your penis for someone else. It also builds excitement for the wearer, much like edging. The wearer deals with not coming to a climax and anticipating that moment when they finally can.

What exactly is a chastity cage?
It is literally a metal (and now sometimes a hard rubber or silicone) device that looks like a spiderweb over the penis and behind the scrotum that prevents any getting hard or stroking; it still allows for peeing. It has a lock that can only be unlocked by a key holder. The design has started to change and evolve over the last few years, some even allow for electric shocks.
Want to try?
First things first, you need to get one that is the right size or you'll be in a lot of pain that is not pleasurable. Measure your flaccid penis (in true measurements, don't try to impress anyone!) from the base of the shaft to the tip, then the circumference, then also the circumference from side to side of your scrotum. Wherever you buy male chastity cages will have sizing guides to follow.
Trim up! You are going to want to avoid any awkward or painful pulling of your pubic hair. A good trim is suggested, not a full shave or you may chafe.
Lube up! Putting some lube on before putting on helps ease slipping in and getting adjusted to the new restrictive placement.
Start off slow, with an hour or two of wear to see how you adjust. If you are uncut, any overhang of the foreskin may lead to inflammation against the cage portion.
Clean up! Make sure you maintain the cleanliness of the chastity cage to avoid bacteria and dirt buildup.
Make sure you set expectations and rules with your partner before getting locked up and handing over the key. Oh, and do we even need to mention putting the key in a safe place?
