Move Aside Gaydar! According to ‘The View’ Host, Gay People Can Apparently SMELL Each Other?!

QUEER

Fleshbot Gay Pop Culture News.

If you've been following the ole zeitgeist recently, then you'll know one of the most popular shows on television is Naked Attraction. The premise of the British series is that a clothed contestant is presented with six naked people hidden in booths. As each round goes on, their naked bodies and faces are slowly revealed, from the feet up. The show was the topic of discussion on a recent episode of ABC's The View, and the show's resident legal expert, Sunny Hostin, confessed that she and her husband are huge fans of the show and binged the entire season (now available on MAX) in one day. She also shared with the world a few of her beliefs on how the "homosexual people" find each other which had a lot of us scratching our homosexual heads!

While discussing Naked Attraction, Hostin confessed that the show turned out to be an incredibly educational experience for her! "I learned things I have never heard of in my life," the host beamed. She even learned what a Prince Albert is! She also learned that "gay men have different scent attraction." Elaborating (and thank gawd), Hostin said, "Homosexual people have a nose for each other. So they can actually smell under their arms and in a blindfold test can tell which person is gay and which person isn’t."

Don't get me wrong... many gays have a love for burying their nose into some pits, and lord knows plenty of us are fans of smelling the ole VHS cleaner, and heck... we have an entire hookup site called Sniffies! But can we really do a blind smell test to confirm who is fam?! EGOT-winner, all-around American icon, and fellow-host of The View Whoopi Goldberg chimed in her disbelief and disagreement. "I don't believe it. No, I'm sorry, I know too many gay people who say my gaydar is down."

What does the research say? Well, above all else, the research is fairly inconclusive. A 2005 study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences by Dr. Ivanka Savic showed that gay men and straight men may respond differently to chemicals that can potentially be involved in sexual arousal. These chemicals, known as pheromones, are present in almost all of the animal kingdom. From ants, to fish, to mice, almost every species gets down with some funky smelling. How pheromones factor into human behavior remains largely contested. Also, if you've ever wondered where drag star Farrah Moan got her name from, now you know!

The inconclusiveness of these studies is no doubt compounded by the fact that we are also witnessing the breaking down of limitations and definitions regarding human sexuality and gender. As we come to learn the broad spectrum of both sexuality and gender, the data that applies to our human sexuality will no doubt continue to adapt, as well.

Whatever the case, the clip is amazing and watching the hosts of The View discuss naked bodies and dick piercings was *chef's kiss*. Here's the full clip from the show:
