The Official ‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ Trailer Has Dropped and It Looks Amazing (and Super Hot)!

Amazon's film adaptation of Casey McQuinton's wildly popular best-selling gay novel 'Red, White & Royal Blue' is one of the most anticipated releases of the summer. The official trailer has finally dropped and it's even gayer, hotter, and sweeter than I could have anticipated.

As a quick refresher for those who aren't familiar with it, the fiction tells the story of the son of the first female President of the US, Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez), and Prince Henry of England (Nicholas Galitzine). After their first meeting goes disastrously wrong, the countries with a famously "Special Relationship" make the two young men to go on a PR tour showing how close they really are. In so doing, the two men end up discovering their own special relationship. And where they started out hating each other's guts, they end up falling in love and wanting to rearrange each other's guts by the end.

The trailer opens with one of the gayest things I could hope for: Uma Thurman in a suit playing the President of the United States rocking a southern drawl. Hook. Line. Sinker. You've got me. After an initially cold first introduction, the two get into a bit of a skirmish at a wedding that results in the giant cake falling on top of the two men. Anyone into messy food kink? Because if so, boy oh boy do I have the movie for you. The international news goes berserk and as Madame President Uma Thurman (#Thurman2024) puts it, what they need is “some good old-fashioned damage control.”

When the two reconnect at their PR retreat, a very hot handshake tug-of-war ensues that is giving "whoever loses the arm wrestling bottoms" vibes that I'm very here for at this moment in time. The studs trade barbs with the First Son bragging that his NDA is bigger, and the Prince retorting that he knows he's also wearing lifts.

What unfolds from there looks to be a classic American rom-com in the legacy of You've Got Mail, As Good As It Gets, and yeah I'll say it: Drive Me Crazy. Red, White & Royal Blue is positioning itself to be the next film in the recent line of gay movies that fit the classic American rom-com structure, following the release of two other big-studio flicks Bros (Universal) and Fire Island (Hulu).

Like its gay predecessors, RW&RB doesn't look like it will pull any punches in terms of how gay it presents itself. The trailer gives us steamy scenes with lots of skin showing (my gawd the bodies), and apparently will be salacious enough that the movie earned an R rating. The trailer is also packed with gay AF lines like, "You better act like the sun shines out of his ass and you've got a Vitamin D deficiency." The amount of entendre I'm hearing in that line is just... *chef's kiss*.

The cast is also wonderfully Queer. Perez is openly bisexual and Galitzine has previously said he doesn't feel comfortable identifying as strictly gay or straight, and even more so that he's attracted to people regardless of their gender identity. The movie will also star gay actors Stephen Fry (we bow before thee), and Broadway icon Sharon D. Clarke.
