Hey gurl! Welcome to yet another fierce episode of my podcast Hey Gurl! With Jordan Jayro! This week, I sat down with one of my favorite queens Rainy Dayz! Rainy is a hoot and a holler to work with. She’s insanely talented and creative. Rainy has won roughly a million drag competitions in LA. I’ve known her since I first started drag, and she always makes me cry laughing in the dressing room. This entire episode is a hoot from start to finish.

I did open the episode by sharing my dark room story. I can’t remember if I’ve already told that story on the podcast, but I’m pretty sure I did. I’m a goldfish. Anyway, once I introduced my guest Rainy Dayz, we started talking about eyebrows. I wasn’t wearing any while we were recording. Then we talked about padding. Rainy shared how she shaves her legs below the knee and wears her pads without tights. That’s so fierce! I would love to be able to wear a short dress with hip pads and have my bare legs out. All shaved and oiled up, looking sexy.

We talked about pageantry and how we went to watch the Miss Gay US of A prelim pageant. I asked Rainy if she would ever want to compete in a pageant, and she said yes when the time is right. I felt that so hard. I talked about my experience going to the Continental prelim in San Diego, and how it gave me the pageant bug. So you never know! My clown ass could be entering her pageantry era! We are a family of winners!!

Soon, the topic of plastic surgery came up. Rainy talked about her experience getting filler. I am so jealous! I mentioned that I want Botox and filler, and maybe some lipo or something to remove my lower stomach. I’ve already gotten some laser hair removal on my face (which is way overdue for a touch-up) but I’m ready for more! So who knows what either of us will look like this time next year? We just both need to stumble into a large sum of money. Any day now!

In the second half, I asked Rainy Dayz about how many competitions she had won. Rainy had competed in and won nearly every single bar pageant in Southern California. Ms. Rainy was slaying the drag game in LA, and Covid had to come and ruin everything. We talked about how drag has been difficult since things reopened. A lot of venues we used to work at did not survive the pandemic and the ones that did have new people booking the shows. And they only book their friends, so it feels like starting all over again.

You know I do lengthy research on each of my guests. So I had to ask Rainy about her time working for TMZ. She talked about how she would work from 5 am to 3 pm and she’d wait at LAX to see which celebrities would show up. This was all during the Bill Cosby scandal and the #MeToo movement. Basically Rainy would wait with a backpack, and if she saw a celeb, she would run up with the camera recording and ask questions.
