A Look at the Red Hot Cast of Amazon’s “Red, White, & Royal Blue” Movie Adaptation

The cast for the Amazon Studios film adaptation of the wildly successful gay novel Red, White, & Royal Blue from author Casey McQuinton was just announced, and let me just say my gay ass is very excited. For those who don't know, McQuinton's best-selling book tells the fictional story of the relationship between Alex Claremont-Diaz, son of the first female President of the United States, and the Prince of England, Prince Henry. The two meet, hate each other, and like all great hate relationships realize maybe they're in love? Prince Henry is gay, and Alex realizes he's bisexual, and the two develop a secret romance. The movie is going to be directed by Tony Award winner Matthew Lopez (The Inheritance). Here's a look at the cast and why we're so excited for it.

Landing the role of son of the POTUS is Taylor Zakhar Perez. The Chicago native is known to most for his roles in HBO Max's Minx and ABC's Scandal. Minx is the notable one to me, though, because Perez shows full frontal. Though the moment is unfortunately a prosthetic (allegedly), a guy can still enjoy it, because when you see the picture you can understand why. Goddamn. Perez is tall, muscular, ripped, and hairy, and if he's the son of POTUS, then I can think of a few ways I'd love to do service on my country. Excuse me... for my country. Do service FOR my country.

Nicholas Galitzine - Prince Henry

British actor Nicholas Galitzine was picked to play England's Prince Henry. This isn't Galitzine's first time playing a prince as he starred in last year's Cinderella as Prince Robert opposite Camila Cabello's Cinderella. The film also starred Queer icons Billy Porter and Idina Menzel, as well as fan favorite Brits Pierce Brosnan and Minnie Driver. Galitzine was also in the 2017, Melissa Joan Hart-directed re-make of Watcher In the Woods starring Anjelica Huston in the Bette Davis role. Galitzine is sexy, suave, and will no doubt be the perfect Prince Henry. I know you're supposed to be on one knee when you're knighted, but I'll happily be on both knees.

Uma Thurman - President Ellen Claremont

Playing President Ellen Claremont, the first female President of the United States in a fictional 2016 election (*sighs*), Thurman's character is facing off to win re-election in an equally fictitious 2020 election. Thurman has been in more movies than I can count and is never anything short of exceptional. Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Batman & Robin... every role, every movie, and Thurman decidedly understands the assignment. She is going to be a perfect President Claremont, and at this point... can we just have her be the real president, too? I'm sick of these men.

Stephen Fry - (Role Unknown)

Recently seen in Hulu's The Dropout, Stephen Fry was announced as one of the cast members of Red, White, & Royal Blue. Since the movie is still in pre-production, I can't seem to find info on which specific character Fry is going to be playing, but I will quite literally watch Stephen Fry in any role ever. The gay-in-real-life actor has been in everything from V for Vendetta, to Wilde, to A Fish Called Wanda. I just learned he also voiced the role of the headmaster in Netflix's incredible Queer romance series Heartstopper which I wrote about before, and absolutely adored. Not only is Fry a brilliant actor, and not only is he an out loud and proud married homo, but he's also one of the great minds of our era. An outspoken atheist, Fry is a go-to interview for anyone looking for logical and wry thoughts on mental health, science, politics, religious mythologies, and a slew of other topics. Do yourself a favor and watch this incredible clip of him in an interview from 2015.

I can't wait for this movie to come out, because lord knows I'm a sucker for a good gay flick, a political entanglement, and anything British to slake my anglophile thirst.
