When I first entered the porn business, I was shocked at how much attention my videos would get. Three million views, and I only walked away with 1K and a slap on the ass? If one ten-minute clip of myself could garner over three million views, I could most certainly make some scratch in this sleazy free porn clip business. It’s a dumpster fire of cheapskates.
[Sidebar: I don’t blame people for not wanting to pay for porn. Life sucks and so do the bills we pay to stay alive. It's whatever. But, shoutout to those who do pay for porn. You folks are really angels to me. Thank you for your time! Hallelujah!]
-Counterfeit Porn from 2012. Who the fuck is “Bustaman”?
I’ve run my own sites, as well as observed how studios and collaborators have handled films that I have appeared in. I’m at peace with myself and whatever is out there. It’s a business. We sell, trade, or donate signed release forms.
Once I sign a release form and get in front of that camera, I have no say in how that material is sold, marketed, named, or contextualized unless it’s explicitly mentioned in the contract that I signed on the day of filming. These are lessons learned over time as the attention to detail sharpens. Maintain your paperwork and keep the legal identification of your co-performers on file. This is standard practice.

-Here is a well-meaning porn promotional account. I do not know the person who posted this tweet, but hopefully it’ll garner some subscriptions.
Why do porn for free? Ad revenue and promotion for subscription-based platforms. However, this is not at all a favored manner of doing business in the adult entertainment industry. Some folks keep their content very close to the vest, some do not. I see the value of keeping your content under lock-and-key. Cam show artists make a whole career out of the art of strip tease and keeping people’s attention. I don’t have the patience for that. I see limitation in remaining exclusive to any one art form in this industry. There is an endless pit of wild experiences to be had and it all builds into the mythology of your brand.
I believe the easiest way to reach an audience is to make yourself available to them and offer an expansive and diverse body of work. If you like the “Eddie Danger” personality, body, brand (whatever you want to call it), we also offer live acrobatic strip shows, sexually fluid porn across all genres, along with an EXTRA SPECIAL FAN CLUB (if you feel like supporting the artist directly), where you will be privy to his most private home videos with real life hookups! WOW! Now, that’s exclusive content!

I run a JustFor.Fans account (@eddiedangerous) but also upload free content to websites such as Pornhub and XVideos. I find that, combined with foot-to-pavement work (stripping, acting, promoting, webcamming, and touring), the free content draws in audiences for the real prize of their subscription to my JustFor.Fans site. That’s where we can connect and collaborate. Would you like a custom video? Let’s talk.
How do you strike that balance between previewing/posting your best work (for free) while simultaneously reserving the MOST EXCLUSIVE and BEST of the BEST for the subscription-based platform? That’s a tough one. Acting in professional studio films will help to contextualize your brand to a potential new audience. However, in doing so, you do give up what some would consider exclusivity that could be monetized somehow. It’s a matter of how you prefer to run your business. There’s no right or wrong way. This is an ongoing debate among industry professionals.
So, say we’re going for TOTAL EXPOSURE. How did one video accumulate three million view off of one site? It did not. It was disseminated across the internet throughout a network of smaller websites and video aggregate sites. The views were free, but riddled with advertisements so that ad revenue can be passed around.
Make sure you don’t agree to any exclusivity for a 5% earnings bonus. It’s not worth it. If the host site isn’t generating revenue fast enough to justify an exclusive deal, you can maximize earnings per video by uploading to several different “porn networks”. Let the money rain from all sites.
The worst part about uploading porn is all of the data input. Tagging videos sucks. It’s boring and repetitive. The uploader lists attributes featured in the video that would attract a viewer to content that they are looking for. Tagging Porn: Anal Training, Big Cock, Tight Hole, Facial Cumshot, Throat Job, College Boy, Cum Dumpster. The lists aren’t as thrilling as one might assume.
Sometimes the sexiest thing about a porn video is how clean the editing is. Sometimes it’s the title that does it. Sometimes the most popular clips are poorly-lit, poorly shot, but have a great title. It’s hard to tell what will resonate with people. It’s all about the perception of the footage and whatever fantasy people impose onto it.
It’s also smart to change the titles of the videos between sites to test out different searchable words. The vocabulary used in the title, description, and tags are all critical to the effective dissemination of all videos uploaded to a porn network.
International sites within “the network” use automated translation technology and often scramble the words around in the title. The words used should be straight-forward so their automated translation can spit out a clearer title that will attract international audiences to your videos. Eddie Danger is translated to “Eddie Hazard” on some German-language aggregate porn tube sites.
Maximizing the translation accessibility of your titles can be difficult since the vocabulary of porn has developed through the evolution of slang. We write in a secret code for each of our languages: Creampie, Facial, PAWG, CBT, Scat, Hentai, Bukkake, Gokkun, Hirsute – well, now I’m overwhelmed and disgusted, but you get the picture, these words are unique and worth considering as you title, describe, or tag your content. All I am saying is that your “creampie vid” may appear on food fetish aggregate sites if you don’t make that title clearer. Not a problem, just a different audience. There are so many ways to say the same things: cum inside, impregnation, breeding, fertilization, internal ejaculation, and so on. It helps to go down rabbit holes of porn to study how the audience engages with the genre of content that you produce. Use the words that they use and emphasize the attributes of the clip that cater to their specific interest.
-This is a good example of a video that appeared on several international-domain websites under several different titles.
Congratulations! You are now and international Porn Star! Moving forward, keep in mind that this content is out there forever. So, handle it with care. It is important to remember that you are in control of the dissemination of the porn. Sure, the videos will be pirated, but you are the owner of the footage. You can take the videos down whenever you want. The rest will most likely be lost down the ever-flowing river of porn. It may wash up every so often, but it isn’t likely that neglected content will remain searchable as video pirating strips away the file’s unique attributes that tie the video to its creator. It doesn’t take long to bury porn if nobody is looking for it.
When independent porn actors collaborate, it is important to hold some manner of respect for your co-star. This is a collaboration that effects several aspects of somebody’s life and livelihood. Don’t use words that you believe they would find offensive. Be fair to their feelings as a collaborator. Even if you think a particular title would elevate the popularity of the clip, put yourself in your co-star’s shoes and ask yourself if it is something that they’d agree to. For example, if your co-star is trans, make sure that the language you use is in line with their personal branding. Same with race. There’s no need to put race play where it isn’t intended or even welcome. Use your head. Be respectful. Thank you! Hallelujah!
The relationships that you make as an independent porn performer are deep and meaningful but can often become problematic based on the nature of the business. While we all understand how the revocation of consent can be weaponized (even if all paperwork is properly filed), it’s important to remember to have a heart and do the right thing. If you shared an OnlyFans account with your boyfriend and you break up, they have the right to ask you to take it down. This business does not have to be as cut and dry as contractual agreements. If you’re making money off of porn, keep it ethical. We don’t have a human resources department, so please contribute to the honesty of our line of work.
Make your funny money and have a blast filming! It’s a great life, albeit complicated, and that’s just the beginning! Once you’ve taken all that porn to the bank, you’ve got to file some taxes! Good luck with that mess; you’re on your own with that one. Seriously though, pay your taxes.
