We Can’t Stop The Total Domination of Guys in Suits

Two of Michael Lucas' newest movies, "Men in Suits" and "After Hours," join the ever increasing trend of gay porn that fetishes guys in business attire. Just what the hell is that all about, and is it a good thing?

Indulge us for a bit while we wax philosophical about gay porn, but we promise we'll provide you with some pretty pictures while you do it. When looking at Lucas' movies (which are both excellent, particularly the scorching and very cosmopolitan "After Hours") it finally occurred to us that we're watching way more porn these days with guys wearing business suits than we are all of those porn archetypes that are so popular they've become cliche. Along with "Men in Suits," which promises to be the first volume in a series, there's the continued success of Brits in britches site Men at Play and there's Suite 703's Men Hard at Work. Hot House is also cashing in and have been rolling out the scene from the latest film their well-dressed "Head Hunters" series on their website. So, just what's the deal with all this?

These aren't anything like the gay porn archetypes we grew up believing in. Browsing the gay porn aisle of the video store (remember those relics?) used to look like a Village People performance. It was either leather men, ethnic types (like the Native American), or a variety of blue collar trade. Yes, every time you saw a professional man in a porn movie he was a cop (like in this Al Parker classic here), construction worker, army man, pizza boy, plumber, fire man, cowboys, or some other working class stiff. While we still get a smattering of these (especially the every-popular military theme), they have pretty much disappeared in lieu of guys in three-piece numbers, button-down shirts, and ties.

The thing about porn is that we always want what we can't have. In the early days of smut, the men purchasing it and consuming it wanted to be welcomed into that macho world where gay men thought they could never tread. It would be downright dangerous to try to get play on a construction site, and that's what made seeing it in the movies so goddamn fun. The world of lower-class workers was probably something that many gay men were not a part of, and that made it that much more appealing. The ultimate fantasy was to score a straight guy for one roll in the hay and to never hear from him again.

But things have changed, and now our new idols are the well-to-do men going about their business days. Maybe this is because society has changed so much since those days. Gay men are welcome in all sorts of occupations and they're no longer just looking in from the outside. But as we've become more mainstream, we've lost some of the inherent sexual deviancy of the old days. Now we see these guys in a suit—the ultimate stuffy uniform—but what we really want to see is the tight bodies and tattoos and body hair and piercings underneath. That below all that finery is the body of a beast, with a libido to match.

We're no longer looking for the world's hottest trade to satisfy a passing urge, we're now looking for marriage material. We want a guy who is hot, horny, and makes enough money that we can live comfortably forever. We want a world that is like our own, the office life of the day-to-day, but with all the sex we could want. We are idolizing the rich, the dapper, and the masculinity that goes along with it. Yup, suits are here to stay, but we can't wait to see which uniform comes next.
