Wentworth Miller Sexy As Ever, Talks Gay Struggles In Attitude

Wentworth Miller has been named Man of the Year by Attitude Magazine, and for good reason. Of all the gay celebrities out there sharing words of wisdom (and I honestly think there can never be too much of it, so keep it up, zero celebrities reading this,) Wentworth Miller's recollections and advice always stand out to me. The STUNNING 44-year-old actor is the teller of truth, and opens up about his struggles with depression and the overall ugh-ness of coming out in the new Attitude. Of course, there's also a sexy photo shoot with Wentworth Miller, and can I just say, this guy is honestly looking better than ever! The fact that he now has some salt with his pepper makes my taint do the Nae Nae.

So often the advice given to gay youths is along the lines of "be yourself!" However, unless you grow up in an LGBT-friendly region, sometimes it can be more important to go into survival mode until you can GTFO and be around people who don't suck dick. Or, better yet, find some that do suck dick! This is how I've felt since I realized I was gay in high school (in a fucking holler. Thanks for moving us to Appalachia so you can buy an ugly field, Mom and Dad.) Maybe strategically keeping my gayness bottled up for four years fucked me up for life, or maybe it set me up to be a well-adjusted college kid. IDK. I do have a freezer full of squirrels tho. JK. 

Okay, I think I wrote all of that in case Wentworth Miller found this article and was looking for a soul mate. Let's actually hear what Wentworth has to say about being gay and struggling with suicidal thoughts.

On his advice for gay youths: 

I would say what others have said: it gets better. One day, you’ll find your tribe. You just have to trust that people are out there waiting to love you and celebrate you for who you are.

In the meantime, the reality is you might have to be your own tribe. You might have to be your own best friend. That’s not something they’re going to teach you in school. So start the work of loving yourself. Make sure you talk to yourself, in your head or out loud, like you talk to your best friend — or how you’d want your best friend to talk to you.

On saying something that will make you run to the bathroom and bawl your eyes out right now:

I told no one. You only cry for help if you believe there’s help to cry for.

On his personal coming out story:

It was a long road. I did it in my own way. And my own time. When I was ready: emotionally, mentally, spiritually. When I had a support system in place. I think that’s critical. To lay a solid foundation first and then make the big life decisions.

On the correlation between his character, Captain Cold on DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and gay identity:

It comes down to difference. I think that’s what most superhero arcs are about. Someone starts out being penalized because they’re outside the norm, then they discover that the very thing that makes them different is what’s going to save the world. Apparently, comic books have a massive LGBTQ fan base. That’s probably not a coincidence.
