Part romance, part historical, political thriller, Fellow Travelers has all our attention. Based on the book by Thomas Mallon, the story follows gay men living in Washington, DC and working in politics during the McCarthy Era. As McCarthy's Red Scare targeted communists, there was also a Lavender Scare targeting homosexuals. The limited series airing on Showtime and Paramount+ follows the decades-long relationship between State Department worker Hawkins Fuller (Matt Bomer) and the love of his life, Tim Laughlin (Jonathan Bailey), a Congressional Aid. From Vietnam to disco to the AIDS crisis, we see these guys through it all. Fellow Travelers premieres on Showtime on October 27, 2023.

From the Lavender Scare to The Color Purple. Oprah and Spielberg (no other names needed!) team up to bring us a musical adaptation of Alice Walker's iconic story, The Color Purple. A Tony Award-winning hit on Broadway, this version of the movie is giving us the entire lesbian storyline the first movie had to hide around. American Idol winner Fantasia reprises the role of Celie after a smash Broadway run, and she's joined on screen by Danielle Brooks, who scored a Tony nomination for her performance as Sofia, The Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey as sister Nettie, Oscar nominee Colman Domingo as Celie's husband Mister, and Oscar and Emmy nominee Taraji P. Henson as Celie's love Shug Avery. For those who don't know: The Color Purple follows the life of Celie, a poor, young Black woman, and her friends and family living in the Deep South during the early 1900s. It's going to be so legendary — you don't want to miss this! And it's going to be released on Christmas Day, so get ready for a good Christmas cry.
