Netflix’s New Queer Drama ‘Everything Now’ Gets Its First Trailer and We’re Very Here for It

QUEER

Fleshbot Gay Pop Culture News.

It's a much different world being a Queer youth today than it was for a lot of us who grew up in the '70s-'00s. Whereas many of us didn't quite have the same style of adolescence as our straight counterparts, the next generation of our LGBTQ+ fam is enjoying the benefits of a more open society. They're exploring earlier, dating sooner, and generally getting to enjoy the healthy perks of being a person coming into their own. This is what seems to be explored in Netflix's new Queer drama, Everything Now.

The trailer jumps us right into the thick of things as we see Mia, who is coming back home from a seven-month recovery journey from an eating disorder. From the trailer, those themes are going to be the major thread, as told through the lens of Queer characters. Show creator Ripley Parker confirmed as much saying that the show will focus "on mental health issues faced by many British teenagers, particularly those surrounding food and body image." In addition to that, the show's synopsis says that Mis "is thrust back into the chaotic world of sixth form only to find that her friends have moved on with teen life without her." For the unfamiliar, 'sixth form' is the British equivalent of roughly Junior or Senior year of HS.

Sophie Wilde stars as the show's protagonist, and if the trailer is an accurate indication of things to come, viewers will be in for a real treat for the rising star. This is an incredible next step for the young actor after recently starring in A24's Talk to Me, which ended up becoming the highest-grossing film in the US for the Oscar-winning powerhouse production company. Mia is at that point of life when everything is new and exciting, though juxtaposed with how absolutely dreadful the process of becoming a young adult can feel. Because it's all-new, most of us didn't know what we didn't know! And Mia appears to be no different. "You're mates with Jonah?" asks one classmate. "He has the good weed." To which a somewhat naïve Mia responds, "There are multiple weeds?"

Everything Now co-stars Stephen Fry as Mia's doctor, Dr. Nell. who is one of the all-time great actors. Also co-starring in the show is Vivienne Acheampong, who will play Mia's mom. I was a big fan of her incredible turn as Lucienne in The Sandman, so I'm really excited to see what she does with this. Rounding out the cast are Harry Cadby, Noah Thomas, Sam Reuben, Lauryn Ajufo Niamh McCormack, Jessie Mae Alonzo, Robert Akodoto and Alex Hassell. Each one of them

What seems particularly exciting about this show is also how beautiful it looks visually. As Queer TV and film continue to grow to tell deep and rich LGBTQ+ stories, the styles of filming will also grow and vary. Everything Now seems like it is going to be a wild ride of love, partying, sex, and relationships of every variety, and the trailer is giving some beautiful visual artistry befitting that rollercoaster.

It premieres on Netflix on October 5th, but for now, enjoy the trailer!
