A24 Releases New Comedy ‘Dicks: The Musical’ And It Looks Incredible

It’s become accepted at this point that when A24 produces a movie, it’s going to be absolute gold. And a new movie from the people that gifted us with Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, Moonlight, and Hereditary (just to name a few) is looking like it’s going to keep that reputation alive and well. What’s the next installment for the multiple Academy Award-winning company? Dicks: The Musical, of course!

Yes, you read that correctly. From writers Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp (The Opposition with Jordan Klepper), Dicks: The Musical trailer looks like it’s going to be absolutely hilarious, outrageous, and all-around amazing. To start, the movie is going to feature some of the biggest names in comedy. We’re talking Nathan Lane, Megan Mullally, Bowen Yang, and in her acting debut… Megan Thee Stallion! It will star Jackson and Sharp.

The premise is absolutely hilarious from the jump. Two self-obsessed business rivals (Jackson and Sharp) come to realize that not only are they brothers, but they’re twins And not only are they twins, but they’re identical twins...(It should be noted, of course, that the super tall Jackson with long blonde hair and Sharp with short brown hair look absolutely nothing alike.) But that doesn’t stop these identical twins from reuniting and decided that they’re going to pull the ole switcheroo and swap places in an effort to get their parents (Nathan Lane and Megan Mullally) back together.

Originally titled “Fucking Identical Twins”, the movie musical started as a two-man show that Jackson and Sharp created with The Upright Citizen’s Brigade and then performed in Los Angeles and off-Broadway in NYC. I actually saw a performance of Fucking Identical Twins years ago and it was one of the funniest sketch shows I had ever seen. I got an ab workout from how hard I was laughing and I was massaging my jaw for the next few days. I’m interested in seeing how this show transfers to the big screen and if the humor will translate as well as it did as a two-man show.

The movie musical is in incredibly good hands as it’s being directed by legendary comedy director/writer Larry Charles, who was a staff writer for the first 5 seasons of Seinfeld, and later directed such massive hits as Borat, Brüno, The Dictator, and the Bill Maher documentary Religulous.

Dicks: The Musical hits theatres on September 29, 2023. Until then, enjoy the trailer below!
