Country music star Tyler Childers just had a new single come out before the release of his new album Rustin' In the Rain and it's absolutely beautiful. But for as beautiful as the song is lyrically and melodically, the video he just released is what will really have you wiping your eyes. It stars Colton Haynes (Arrow, Teen Wolf) and James Scully (Fire Island, Titans) as a 1950s gay couple and we're absolutely in love with it.

At its core, In Your Love, like all good country songs, is about love. Specifically, the song is about finding your love against the odds and standing your ground to fight for it once you've found it. "I will wait for you / Til the sun turns into ashes / And bows down to the moon," the song opens. There's a calm beauty to the song, and it slows down time a bit when you listen to it. "And you know some men search for ages / For the love that I have found / So I will stand my ground."

The video leans into this slowing of time. To start, it's set in coal country America in the 1950s, a time that was profoundly slower and calmer than the fast-paced world of 2023. Haynes and Scully are both coal miners who have a side to them that most of the world doesn't know about. But when they finally steal a few glances, they seem to realize that they both do know... and they want to know more. As the video and their story grow, they go from strangers, to buddies, to best friends, to the best of lovers.

Once they finally realize their love for each other, their journey brings them to being what seems to be a full-fledged, unapologetically couple. It leads to them getting beaten up by some of the locals, but as Childers' beautiful lyrics state, they stand their ground. The choice of these lyrics is no doubt a countering to the dangerous "Stand Your Ground" laws of Florida that have led to the death of innocent Black men, and it's reclaimed the power of that phrase in an incredibly beautiful—and wonderfully Queer—way.

The video alludes early on that their love is likely to be a short one. We see Scully coughing while they're sitting in the field together, and we instantly know. Like so many other miners of history, he seems to have gotten "black lung." As the months progress, his health worsens, and, eventually, it becomes clear he only has a bit longer to live. And as the song says, "We were never made to run forever / We were just meant to go long enough / To find what we were chasing after / I believe I found it here in your love."

For Haynes, this short film was one of personal importance. Writing on his social media, he said, "Tyler Childers 'In Your Love' Music Video is finally out ❤️. It’s easily one of my favorite projects I’ve ever been a part of." It's also worth noting that Childers is straight, and is married with kids; this is some pretty wonderful allyship.

Do yourself a favor and enjoy this beautiful, touching, and absolutely catchy new hit from Tyler Childers.
