In movies we didn’t know we needed, Dodgeball 2 is in development with Vince Vaughn returning. The first film featured a number of funny faces including Justin Long (who is open to returning), Jason Bateman, Alan Tudyk, Missi Pyle, Christine Taylor, and Gary Cole. Ben Stiller was the villain in the first film…he has stated that he is wary of doing sequels so who knows if he will return. Wary of sequels? How do you explain a million follow-ups to Meet the Parents that we didn’t need? Why Meet the Parents sequels when we really need a Zoolander follow-up?

In other movies, we didn’t know we needed news, Rihanna will star as Smurfette in the upcoming animated Smurfs film. Yes, you read that right.

Jack Black is returning in Kung Fu Panda 4! To be honest, I didn’t know there was even a 2. But, love Jack and love Kung Fu Panda. Bring it!

Cartoon movies are all the rage this week! Transformers One is on its way. It will be focused on a young Optimus Prime and his relationship with Megatron…a prequel of sorts. Surprisingly, the film has an A-list roster with Chris Hemsworth starring as Optimus and Scarlett Johansson, Keegan Michael Key, John Hamm, and Laurence Fishburne rounding out the cast. I’d actually watch the live-action version of this!

Fasten your seatbelts! I couldn’t be more excited. Footage from the new trilogy of Exorcist films was shown at CinemaCon. The first film, Exorcist: Believer, features the return of Ellen Burstyn as she confronts a possessed daughter of Leslie Odom Jr. saying, “We’ve met before.” CHILLLLSSSS!

Sadly, someone who is not coming back to an iconic role is Sigourney Weaver in the Alien franchise. Plans are in place to keep the story going with an upcoming Alien film on the way, but Weaver stated that she has aged out and “that ship has sailed.” When we think of kick-ass women superheroes, her Ripley certainly comes to mind. She returned to the role briefly in a parody for a cable commercial. Thanks for the good times, Sigourney!

Being joked about, Gladiator 2 is on the horizon. Russell Crowe will not be returning, even though an earlier sequel idea had his character roaming around the afterlife. The only returning character from the original is actor Connie Nielsen, with the film focusing on the son she had with Crowe. Denzel Washington is among the cast and Stranger Things’ Joseph Quinn will take over for Joaquin Phoenix’s evil emperor.

So I’ve been very open about my obsession with Indiana Jones. The upcoming finale, Dial of Destiny, will be bittersweet as I say goodbye to a fabulous staple of my childhood. Rumors have been swirling that Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan may pop up in the finale reprising his role as Short Round. He officially set the record straight saying that he does not show up in the film. Damn. In more Indy news, Dial of Destiny was set to be the end of the Indy franchise, Harrison Ford not doing any further films nor wanting the role to be recast. BUT…the franchise will continue on Disney+ in some form, though details have not been shared. What is clear is the new series will not feature Harrison Ford. Please, Disney, don’t fuck it up.

In WTF news, Hugh Grant will make an appearance as an Oompa Loompa in Wonka, the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory origin story starring Timothée Chalamet as a singing and dancing Willy Wonka. Can’t make this stuff up.
