SNL’s Pete Davidson Explains There’s Nothing Guys Won’t Do For Money

TV/MOVIES

If you watched the season premiere of SNL this past weekend, you saw the show at its lowest point in nearly 20 years. The show hasn't been this bad since that season between the Phil Hartman years and the Will Ferrell years, when Chris Elliott and Jeaneane Garofalo were cast members. The writing is awful, the ensemble is wildly uneven, and it's just not funny.

Except for new featured cast member Pete Davidson, who stole the show with his Weekend Update commentary on the man facing criminal charges for photographing himself getting a beej from a statue of Jesus. As Davidson so eloquently puts it, "have you ever played the 'how much money would you go down on a guy for' game?"

Granted, it goes to the gay panic well a few too many times, but so does SNL. That's been their bread and butter for as long as I can remember. Nevertheless, in a culture full of guys willing to go "gay for pay," he raises many valid and funny points, which were admittedly a lot funnier when surrounded by the dearth of humor that had preceded it.
