Kink.com is one of those rags-to-riches porn site stories we read about from time to time: In 1997, Peter Acworth started filming kinky videos in his college-dorm room at Columbia University and 17 years later he heads a 31-site porn empire. At the beginning of April 2014, Kink.com announced that they just wrapped filming of their 10,000th scene.
Site founder Peter Acworth estimates that over the past 18 years, Kink has filmed more than 25,000 hours of sex featuring nearly 3,000 performers, and they've gone through 192,000 ounces of lube and more than a half a million rubbers.
Hogtied.com was Kink's first site (the one filmed in that dorm room), and today the company has 31 sites and is the world's largest producer of BDSM and fetish videos. Aside from all those performers, Kink employs more than 100 people to keep production going.
"Back when I started Kink.com, I never envisaged getting to 10,000 published shoots," Acworth said. "In the early days I would tie up models I found on Craigslist with the video camera on a remote control." Since 2006, Kink has resided inside The Armory, a historic building in San Francisco's Mission District, which Acworth purchased for $14.5 million. The Armory's 8,903 square metres houses the company's dungeons, jails, public toilets, and other sets where the all the nastiness is filmed.
"Looking back, the production value has risen consistently over the last 18 years thanks to the incredibly talented people who have joined Kink.com." Acworth adds. "I am constantly blown away by the quality and volume of material we produce, host, and sell."
Butt Machine Boys was Kink's first gay site and it opened in 2004. Featuring horny bottoms getting fucked by varying-speed fuck machines, Butt Machine Boys put the company on kinky gay men's radar. In 2008, Kink opened Bound Gods, a full BDSM site with doms and subs playing in dungeons, hospitals, prisons, and other dark and dirty places. A year later, Naked Kombat brought wrestling fans into the Kink family. And three other sites followed over the past couple of years: Bound in Public (gang bangs in public places), Men of Edge (bondage and cock edging), and the latest, 30 Minutes of Torment (one slave, one master, 30 minutes of boundary-pushing fetish and scene play).
Kink has long been the benchmark by which all other BDSM sites are measured. And they continue to grow. This summer, the documentary Kink produced by James Franco hits theaters and gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the world of Kink.com. The company has also recently opened the Armory Community Center in San Francisco to host fetish community events. Kink University is also opening this spring and the online learning program aims to help BDSM and fetish enthusiasts explore their sexuality safely and creatively.
Kink's Bound in Public has been running a series of BDSM orgies featuring Roman gladiators. The photos in this post come from Bound in Public's When in Rome, Torture and Gang Bang! starring Kip Johnson, Trenton Ducati, Seth Santoro, Connor Maguire, and others.
