German telecom providers blocked access to xHamster — the number one adult site in Germany — in response to an order from state sex regulator Tobias Schmid.

According to the story posted on the german website Heise, Telefónica, Tele Columbus, and 1&1 have implemented the requests issued by media authorities to block the address de.xhamster.com via DNS. The companies informed Heise online on request. Vodafone states that “we will shortly implement the blocking order for this URL as ordered by the responsible authority”. According to a spokesman, Deutsche Telekom has implemented the blocking order.

The Commission for the Protection of Young Persons in the Media (KJM) decided last week that Internet providers must block the xHamster porn portal – more precisely the address de.xhamster.com – so that children and young people cannot access it. The letters from the state media authorities did not go out to all five telecommunications companies at the same time. This could be the reason why some providers have already implemented the lock while others are still in the implementation phase.

Telefonica plans on appealing the block order against xHamster.

1&1, Vodafone and Tele Columbus are still examining the blocking order and whether they want to take legal action against it.
