Behind the Scenes of Male Celeb Nudes

As you know, we regularly bring you the hottest and the best of male celebrity nudes. From pics and videos, we share the skin that is shown on screen, courtesy of our friends over at Mr. Man. In addition to the regular roster of hot posts they put out each week, they also release the highly anticipated Manatomy Awards each year.

The Manatomy Awards is the only award ceremony to recognize the past year’s naked male achievements in film and TV. This year's nude Oscars include Saltburn star Barry Keoghan who won “Best Full Frontal” and out actor Jonathan Bailey who took home two awards for his revealing scenes in Fellow Travelers. “Best Picture” went to the gay erotic drama Passages starring Ben Whishaw and Franz Rogowski, and Jake Gyllenhaal won the coveted “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his numerous nude roles over the past two decades.

We got the chance to sit down with Mr. Man's Managing Editor, Steven A, to find out how their site works, how they get their material, popular celebrity trends, and more!

How do you know what actors to feature, how do you keep your finger on the pulse of what fans want to see?

Well, the beauty of our site is that we try to catalog every single nude scene across the spectrum of film, television, and streaming. From there, one of the big things we rely on is the trends established by Hollywood to determine which content we feature. If there’s a new season of The Boys getting ready to launch on Amazon, we’ll try to capitalize on that by featuring the show more on the site, in blog posts or in original videos.

At the same time, we also use our visitors and subscribers to gauge what’s the best content to feature. If our Top 5 video on the hottest real blow jobs in movies is seeing an explosion in traffic, we can create another top five video in that same vein or write a blog post about it to try and drive even more people to the site.

And then the third major point is that we see dozens of new shows and movies every week and can help guide our readers toward shows we think they’ll appreciate. For example, the Spanish Netflix series Elite was just one of two dozen Netflix shows released the week it first premiered, but when we saw all of the hot gay content in the series, we really pushed it and helped it to become one of the most popular titles on our site.

How are you able to share the naughtiest of naughty clips of celebrities? How do you work with copyright laws to include on the site?

Our site, just like our sister site MrSkin.com, only posts clips from films and television, so we’re protected under the fair use doctrine. Because we are primarily a database offering film reviews, actor bios, and blog posts, we fall within the confines of fair use.

This is why we intentionally don’t post things like paparazzi pics or videos from social media, we’re not trying to compete with celebrity gossip websites. We consider our site to be more of a resource, a comprehensive database like IMDB, we just focus our attention on nude scenes and sexy content from film and television, so it’s only slightly less educational.

Have any celebrities ever gotten mad about all their skin being highlighted on the site?

Most celebrities tend to operate under the philosophy that any publicity is good publicity, many studios send us screeners because they know that we’re ultimately helping to drive eyeballs to their content. We’re also exceedingly positive in how we present the content on our site, taking care never to body shame anyone and always celebrating the fact that a celebrity was willing to show us what they’re working with, so to speak.

What is our obsession with seeing celebrities nude?

Celebrities really connect with their fans through interviews and social media, so we feel like we “know” them and have a personal connection. It all boils down to the thrill of seeing someone you know in the flesh.

At the end of the day, your average person also wants to know how they stack up against the rich and famous. It's why celebrity gossip is such a thriving industry, folks want to know that celebrities go to the gas station and buy junk food just like the rest of us. This also accounts for the popularity of something like our Show-ers vs. Grow-ers promotion. Seeing a celebrity naked scratches a similar itch, the reassurance offered in learning that a celebrity is a person too.

There seems to be a growing trend of more frontal male nudity, and Mr. Man has certainly shared them, why do you think it’s become commonplace in recent years?

There are probably a couple of reasons for this, not sure if any one is more dominant than the other, but primarily I think we’ve loosened up a bit as a society. Despite the rather puritanical views of a very vocal segment of the population, those folks are in the minority these days and the sexuality spectrum has become a much more mainstream idea. So you’re more likely to find that your average person won’t instantly be turned off by the sight of a penis in whatever they’re watching.

I also think that the trend of penises being played for laughs in a lot of the big comedy movies of the 2000s helped to mainstream male frontal nudity. Jason Segel playing a three-minute scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall completely naked went a long way toward showing even straight guys that there’s nothing wrong with a penis appearing on screen. While it’s not always a great idea to play male frontal nudity for laughs, it certainly helped normalize the appearance of penises on screen.

And lastly, I think that actors have just become more comfortable with nudity over the years. In the 90s, it seemed like Harvey Keitel was the only guy going full frontal on screen, but now it’s not viewed as a niche thing for independent movies. Guys like Keitel certainly helped to make penises mainstream, but now there are a much wider variety of penises you can see on film and television.

Do you think there’s an industry disparity in that many male actors wear a prosthetic penis whereas female actors do not on top?

I would imagine that actors have all the same insecurities as the rest of us, and giving them an option perhaps makes doing a nude scene that much easier. Sometimes the role just calls for it, obviously Mark Wahlberg didn’t have the monster cock that his role as Dirk Diggler required so he got some help from the props department. It’s likely a case-by-case basis, but I don’t think prosthetics are quite as rampant as they may seem.

Who are some of the consistently popular actors on Mr. Man? What do you think makes them so popular?

Unsurprisingly, skinny guys with big dicks tend to be the most popular, but that’s not a hard and fast rule. Your usual suspects are all there like Michael Fassbender, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ewan McGregor, and so on. We also have a few celebrities that we like to call Mr. Man Famous, in that they’re huge names on our site, but they might not have as much cultural cache outside of our site. This includes people like Israeli star Tom Mercier, Zoe Kravitz’s ex Karl Glusman, and British actor Kieran O’Brien.

I think what makes any actor popular on our site is a lack of inhibitions. Someone like Barry Keoghan showed in last year’s Saltburn that he didn’t have a care in the world, and that has helped vault him to stardom on our site. Cute twinks like Tom Holland and Timothée Chalamet will always be popular and drive people to our site, but it’s honestly the guys who do more nudity and have fewer hang-ups about being nude that tend to be the most consistently popular.

Is Mr. Man concerned with the current AI trend, where we are saying fake nudes of celebs that look pretty real?

Not especially. As AI has become more prevalent, so too has the generation that grew up with it and can more easily and readily identify it. Having those people in our readership and also on our payroll keeps us all honest, and while I’m sure the studios are eager to exploit whatever shortcuts they can take, I think people are savvy enough to recognize the inherent dishonesty involved in using AI in that way.

Your yearly Manatomy Awards are very popular. Who has to go through all the material to pick the winners, and what is a winning factor?

We have a Content team made up of about a half dozen people who comb through every movie and episode of television to find the nude scenes. They will earmark certain scenes throughout the year for consideration for various awards, as does the Editorial team, who writes all of the bios and reviews for these actors and programs. Once we get past the busy end-of-the-year season, we gather in January to go through the glut of choices we have and select the scenes we think are award-worthy.

We have eight categories that are included every year, things like Best Butt, Best Full Frontal, and Best Picture, but the rest of the awards are usually one-time only things based on the specific nude and sexy content we’ve come across that year. This year, for example, we have things like Best Foot Deepthroat from Fellow Travelers and Best BTS (Boy That’s Shirtless) from BTS member Jeon Jung-kook’s Calvin Klein commercial. These awards probably won’t get given out again, but the fun of the Manatomy Awards is coming up with these crazy things that you can only get from Mr. Man!

What’s a normal day like in the Mr. Man / Mr. Skin office?

I would imagine it’s not too far from your normal day at any other company, it’s just the subject matter we deal with on a daily basis is obviously a lot more scandalous than your average Fortune 500 company. We’re a lot like any other company, we just don’t deal with very family-friendly material. It is, however, an incredibly fun place to work, there’s a pool table and ping pong and a kegerator and everyone gets along and knows one another really well.

What can we expect from Mr. Man in the upcoming year? Any fun projects?

We try to have major promotions every month, as I mentioned earlier, we’re updating our Show-ers vs Grow-ers promo to April Show-ers for the spring. Then in May, we’ll have a salute to the stars of this summer’s blockbuster movies, letting you know the best places to see them nude. Beyond that, we’re always planning ahead and looking for the next big thing that will drive new readers to our site!

What is your message to your fans?
