Between The Cheeks: How Did This Happen? The Making Of A Porn Star (Vol 1, No 6)

BAREBACK

Cybersocket Unplugged Ryan Carter

I'm Ryan Carter and I am a performer in gay adult moviesa LOT of gay adult movies. In fact, I've appeared in more than 500 scenes; albeit mostly 'fans' scenes but I've also done studio scenes, too. Both fans and studio work is the path that I took to becoming a legit adult performer. And there are many avenues to becoming a porn star. The route that I took is but one road in a sea of roads that all lead to Rome. And this whole thing started when my husband, Digger, asked me to join him in a sex scene, which I'll describe in explicit detail a little further into this column (get your lube and a cum rag ready!).

Ryan Carter sportin' a nice boner while lounging at home in West Hollywood, CA, where he lives with his husband Digger.

Ever since discovering the taboo vids of Treasure island Media, I have always secretly wanted to be in porn (probably a common fantasy for so many of us), but never had the sincere drive to actually do it. I was mostly just too afraid of the consequences. So much has changed now. I really think like 90% of people today have a video of themselves jerking off or fucking that it's almost completely normalized in my community. As I just said, appearing in and producing porn as been a long held fantasy ant because so much has changed, I'm fortunate enough that I actually have been able to live this fantasy out IRL (in real life). Kind of a cool development, huh?! Here's another interesting piece of the story: I'm also a mental health professional. When I combine the knowledge accumulated from both careers, I end up with a very unique perspective that gives me insight that almost no one else has. I tell you this not to shock you but to hopefully engender some faith in my writing and relationship guidance.

How Did This Happen?

I did it by performing in fans vids for a few years and then, after having (unintentionally) gotten a slew of attention with my husband, Digger, and building a fairly large audience, I had the credibility to eventually start appearing in studio movies. That's the short story ... and you're about to get the graphic story. Mind you, so much of this whole journey was not planned out; I just took one step at a time and this is where I've landed.

Fans Scenes vs Studio Scenes

The fans scenes are mostly just sex and are shot 'documentary' style, which means the cameras are running all the time and rarely stop (we all know what fans scenes are by now, I presume). Very little footage is cut out, so what you see in the scene is pretty much what happened in the room.

Raw Fuck Club and its progenitor Treasure Island Media are two popular studios that pioneered and continue to do this kind of filmingboth  studios I've done scenes for [click here for RawFuckAClub video link] and [click here for TIMPorn video link]. TBH, though, I think fans vids are really what has pushed this kind of content into the zeitgeist of our culture. Contrast fans vids 'natural' style of porn-making with the highly polished and produced vids that studios are known for making. In most studio scenes, there's usually a script or plot line that needs to be followed because the scene is often part of a larger story of an entire movie. This means a lot of time is spent filming the "b-roll " (these are the scripted, story-telling, non-sex scenes), sometimes an exhausting amount of time is spent shooting the b-roll. The sex scenes, by contrast, are usually the easiest part of a studio movie to make. With fans vids, we just fuck. There's almost always no story or script in fans vids, it's purely sex.

Keep in mind that everything I write about in this column is true and actually happened. I am not making up stuff to write about.

The Making Of A Porn Star

I didn't set out to become a porn star. I just sorta stumbled into it; first by making tons of fans vids (which I really enjoy doing), then by appearing in studio movies. My first fans scene was a group fuck free-for-all five-way that I appeared in along with my husband. We were invited to the group scene by the actual porn stars who were making the video, which included super stud Jack Vidra, along with Brendan Patrick, and Nick Long, and was shot by Norbert,

Digger and I didn't even have stage names at that point so we were just these two unnamed anonymous guys tossed into the mix. I was so skittish about doing the scene and having sex on camera that I requested that my face be cut out of frame. See, in my head, I figured I couldn't be identified this way. Which is ridiculous. And it's not lost on me that I have the most distinguishable tattoos, too. When the video came out a few months later, I subscribed to Jack Vidra's Just For Fans page so I could watch it. I was enthralled and super turned on. I've never seen myself fucking on camera. But what actually stood out to me was that in every frame that I was in, my head was cut out, just like I asked for. I looked like half a person. I didn't like that. I thought it was silly to be filmed and have my head cut off. I figured if I'm going to be in porn, I should either show all of me or just not do it at all. It was like having one foot in, one foot out. It really looked silly to me. I decided that I was going to just do it and that I would own my decision. Since that day, I have never had my face cut out of a scene. I understand why guys film and try to be anonymous...it's very erotic to be filmed having sex. I discovered that I am an exhibitionist. I really get off being filmedor just being watchedhaving sex. Making the decision to be in adult movies impacted me profoundly. I learned to be braver and to not shy away from my decisions, especially my sexual decisions. As a result, I have come to better own my sexuality and to try not to be afraid of others' judgment or if someone has a negative opinion of me, which is very liberating. I make an effort to not worry much anymore about what other people think. Being in porn has helped me do that.

In that first scene, the five of us all started kissing each other in the living room, while we stripped and then broke off into two smaller groups. I flip fucked on the balcony with Jack. He was facing outwards leaning against the railing with his ass facing inward towards me. I leaned against him and put my hard dick in the middle of his ass cheeks and pushed into his muscle hole down to the base of my cock. I fucked him like that for a few minutes with him facing out, then we switched places and he topped me. Neither of us came. Nick came up to us and pulled me into the guest room off the balcony where there was an L sectional. He laid me on my back on the chaise lounge part of the sofa and mounted me in the missionary position. His dick is long and hard, hence his name, Nick Long. He didn't cum either, but his dick pushed into my hole and hit deep inside me, which kinda ached and yet still felt good. The cameraman, Norbert, was following the major action in the living room so we stopped and joined the others there. Jack was bent over a dining room chair and he was getting tag fucked by Digger and Brendan. Nick and I joined in fucking him. I could feel myself reaching orgasm, so I just let it go and came all over Jack's butt cheeks. I pulled out and then the other guys started shooting in and on Jack's ass. Since it was my first scene, I think my participation in this scene was only so-so, in my opinion, even though it was a very hot group fuck. I'm also comparing my performance in this vid to what I'm capable of now.

My second fans scene was a few months later in a 4-way with established adult performers Jack Mackenroth & Jay Austin, which was quickly followed up by another 4-way scene with big-dicked dom top BigCmen & Zario Travezz, who we filmed with shortly after shooting our scene with Jack.

The 1-2 punch of these two porn powerhouses put Digger and me on the map. and we owe a lot of our initial exposure to them. BigC very wisely recommended that Digger and I put ourselves out there as a couple, since we were a real couple making porn together and that was something that set us apart in the industry. He was right. But, many porn couples don't usually survive very long. There are always exceptions, but our relationship set us apart from the crowd, so we tapped into that along with our tatted bodies and being slutty daddies, which led to our tag name, "tatted muscle daddy couple." We came up with our stage names: Digger's name really is his nickname, which got coined at a party when we first started dating and it just stuck. So he decided to use that nickname as his stage name. I got my name because "Ryan" was the hookup name that I used years ago when I was closeted. "Carter" was a random name I had programmed into my intercom for anonymous hookups so I didn't have to give my legal last name to strangers. I put the two names together and, voilà, "Ryan Carter!" After that, Digger and I filmed like wild, shooting about 2-3 scenes per week and we amassed a huge library of content. We were so prolific and did so many Fans scenes with many of the top performers that, as a result, we became pretty well-known. We built ourselves up as the muscle daddy duo, 'RCandDigger,' and that's the name that we are recognized by today.

We became well known mostly through our fans content, and it's this audience that has kept us at the top of the 'charts.' About a year after starting in porn, we began getting calls from studios wanting to work with us, which makes sense because we came with a built-in fan base that they wanted to tap into. Digger didn't want to do studio scenes, but I did. Soooo....

My first studio scene was for Pantheon Productions titled "Lost Dads," directed by Brian Davilla, which was about hitch-hiking older muscle daddies (I'm a muscle daddy) who get lost in the desert in and around Palm Springs, then picked up and fucked senselessly. After that, I have found myself doing several studio scenes per year.  They can be fun yet a lot of work; and doing them can help expose me to fans that otherwise wouldn't have found me. I have noticed a surge in Fans subscriptions and social media followers when a studio scene is released. So I have an incentive to keep doing these kinds of scenes when the opportunity comes up.

The good thing is that my sex life with Digger has continued to thrive and grow as our filmed sexual adventures grow. I think this is because filming good sex scenes keeps us going sexually. We're also pretty open sexually; we're completely honest with each other about what we do and how we feel;  and we have a lot of fun doing those 3 & 4-ways with famous porn stars and tag fucking random guys. This has kept our interest in sex and interest in each other pretty strong. We've had a lot of sexual adventures! Most of these sexual adventures have been positive but there have also been a few busts, which is expected.

Getting Good Advice: A Code of Conduct Keeps Us Out of Trouble and Away From Drama

Digger and I came up with a 3-point code for social media that we started using from the very beginning, which came from guidelines that we got from Jack Mackenroth; and this code continues to guide us today (because it works):

  • We keep it kind
  • We keep it fun
  • We keep it sexy

We try to stay away from posting anything (content, social media posts, public statements, etc) that does not hit at least one of these three points. We have learned that being consistent in following these simple rules have helped us develop a good reputation, which has helped us to develop good relationships, and this, in turn, helps us to continue to have access to major porn stars and that allows us to continue to make fun, compelling sex vids. Also we're not dragged down by negative drama. As I said, we learned these rules from Jack Mackenroth, who is experienced in managing fame, and he shared extensively with us what he's learned along the way. We asked him why he was being so generous, his response is classic Jack, "because I really believe we're all in this together, that all boats rise with the tide. When you do well, we all do well." He also advised to stay away from the user comments at the bottom of all the blogs. "For every nice comment, you'll read twenty shitty ones. It's not worth it and it doesn't matter." There's nothing to be gained by reading a bunch of nasty, anonymous comments. Jack's inclusive and loving ethos aligned so tightly with our own beliefs that we adopted them into our own porn model. And it works for us.

In the end, Digger and I have had so much fun making our piggy vids that the past several years in the industry have just flown by. Which brings me to my final point, which is about gratitude and the importance of expressing gratitude to those that we feel grateful towards. I don't keep those feelings to myself; I think it's important to share them when I feel them. I regularly thank my husband for encouraging me to join him on this adventure. And with our newest collared pup, Jax Thirio, we have even more to be grateful for. Like our other boys, he's such a delight to be aroundand that positivity and optimism is important to us.

Our chosen family has grown to include three "official" (collared) pupsJason Angel (aka Clipper),  Gryphon Ashe (aka Kilo) and Jax Thirio (Pup Spartan), three wonderful men and really good adult performers that I highly recommend following if you want to watch them get into their fun and sometimes sordid shenanigans.

Pup Kilo sportin' his pup mask, gear and locked collar with engraved dog tag - presented to him by Ryan Carter - is part of Ryan & Digger's chosen family, which also includes his husband Archer Croft (who's not a collared pup).

Being in an open relationship with Digger and having our chosen familywho are actually all sexually open and unashamed sluts, even if they're not collaredhas been an incredibly grounding experience. We all need love and acceptance - they're both critical for humans (and pups) to thrive, especially us gay boys who live sexually out-of-the-box lives. Doing porn has liberated me in ways I could never fully convey. But I know that pushing through my own discomfort and judgment about sex and what others think has profoundly contributed to my personal growth. The big take away here is that I encourage anyone reading this column to push yourself through your own uncomfortable feelings and judgment and challenge yourself to have experiences that you all need in order to grow. I'm not advocating for people to do porn 'cause it's not for everyone. But we all have some sexual judgment and doing things that you secretly want to do yet sorta scare you is a good place to put some energy. The key is to be as honest as possible with yourself about what you want and what you're doing...own your choices, and don't harm anyone in your pursuit of personal growth. Endeavoring this challenge has the potential to have a profound impact on your life that I'm guessing you probably won't regret.
