Titan’s “P.O.V.” Is Not What You Think It Is (Depending On What You’re Thinking)

If you're at all familiar with what's going on in the straight porn world these days (and it's OK if you are; we think some of it's hot too), you already know that many studios have their own lines of POV releases and that the term means something pretty specific: porn shot from the perspective of someone who's actually having sex. Provided that you can get over the psychological hurdle of having someone else's disembodied (and almost invariably bigger) penis stand in for your own, it's about as close as video porn can get to recreating the sexual act ... minus nuances like smell and taste and actual, you know, sensation. But close enough! So when we first saw the title of director Brian Mills' new Titan opus, we were excited that gay porn was finally getting into the act as well. At last, we would finally have a reasonably convincing idea of what it was like to fuck Francois Sagat ... even if he wasn't wearing the pink vinyl thong we like to imagine him in!

But alas, it looks like we're going to have to wait to get cast in a Titan movie ourselves to find out: the POV in "P.O.V." is that of the video camera that Braxton Bond buys at a garage sale right after the opening credits and which is used to "film" the rest of the movie. Not exactly the kind of POV we were hoping for, though it establishes the "themes of voyeurism and sex on camera" that tie together the rest of the scenes--which mostly take place outdoors and which feature La Sagat in a pretty hot flip-flop scene with Darius Falke.

So except for foisting some sounding action on an otherwise unsuspecting audience in the first scene of the Director's Expanded Edit (maybe we should've read that press release first?), "P.O.V." doesn't exactly break any new ground; it's pretty much on par with most of the other Titan releases that have come down the pipe lately, which depending how fond you are of their current stable of performers may not be such a bad thing. Still, is it too much to ask a gay porn studio to take a chance and deliver the real kind of POV smut we've been waiting for? We're sure Titan can teach Francois how to work one of those pro-grade cameras before his contract runs out ... 'cause god knows it's going to take us longer than that to get our asses into good enough shape to join him onscreen.
