The Gentle Jock: Joey Dane

Though he has had an online presence since 2017, it really is over the last year or so that the lean and luscious Joey Dane has become a major player in the adult entertainment industry. With his jock's body, California-tanned skin (complete with a sexy tan line), naughty-looking mustache, and uninhibited performances, one might think that this stud could be arrogant or distant. Nothing could be further from the truth. When he is not on camera, Joey Dane is as sweet and gentle a soul as you'll ever meet. He finds joy in perfecting his craft as a graphic designer and in baking goodies for his beloved circle of friends in San Diego. In his first-ever print interview, this surprisingly shy, gentle jock shares about his conservative Midwest background and how coming to the business has allowed him to be his truest and freest self.

Let's start with a few basics: Name? Age? Hometown? Occupation? Relationship status?

My name is Joey Dane, and I go by “Joeyxdane” online. I’m from the Midwest, but live in San Diego. I had always dreamed of making it to California one day, and San Diego is my home now. After moving to California, I realized how much fitness mattered to me, and decided to become a personal trainer. As for my dating life, I am single by choice! I’ve been embracing the single life for a few years, and honestly, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. It gives me freedom that I really enjoy.

How did you create your stage name?

My stage name comes from my real middle name. After I decided on my first “stage” name, I just went with a last name that seemed like it would roll off the tongue. And Joey Dane was created!

Where are you from? Tell us about your background and upbringing.

I grew up in the Midwest in a conservative environment at home and school. This was definitely one of things “you’re going to hell if you’re gay” type places. I had a hard time making friends growing up. I knew something was “different” about me, but I couldn’t figure out what it was. I was always good at sports, and pushed to do sports all year round. Despite that, I was a really introverted kid. Getting into high school, I found a creative side of me that loved doing the plays, design, and yearbook. I was slowly coming out of my shell towards the end of high school.

You've shared that you came out later in life. Was it hard for you?

After moving to California for a “fresh start”, I started to feel more like myself than ever before. Especially being in a city like San Diego that had diversity and inclusion that I had never experienced, I was 26 years old when I came out of the closet. At the time, the hardest thing I had ever done was calling my family and telling them. But telling my friends in San Diego was so different and easy. They embraced me and made this next chapter of my life so fun.

When and why did you start creating content? Do you think you were making up for lost time after growing up closeted?

I started an OF page in 2017, so it’s been a while. At the time, OF was still kind of a “hush-hush” subject. It’s interesting because I never had any attention from anyone (girls or guys) growing up. But after a few years into my own fitness journey, people started commenting on my body. It gave me confidence for the first time in my life, and honestly, I liked the attention. I started an OF page for extra money, and for years, it was just a side hustle that was extra money to use for the weekends. At that time, my content was pretty tame, and over the years I’ve gotten very comfortable putting myself and my body out there.

You were actually a content creator for some time and have only recently started doing studio work. How did this come about?

Studio work never really crossed my mind, to be honest. Even if I wanted to do it, I wouldn’t have known how to get started. But I got contacted on Twitter by Chris Crisco in 2024, who was interested in managing me for studio work. I was interested and decided to make it a reality. He helped me get studio work with Sean Cody in San Diego. I was definitely nervous, but really excited to start this journey.

How has your new presence in studios affected your life and career? How do you compare the two?

So much of my life professionally centers around my studio work and OF. It’s funny, all my friends know everything that I do, and they love to hear all my stories from “work”. I definitely have more people now who will come up and ask if I’m Joey (my stage name), so I know my work has gotten out there. But I love it, it’s fun, and I'm glad they can enjoy it too.

How do you compare your work in the studio world to your OnlyFans work? Any preference? Competition?

I think my OF content shows a lot more of my personality. I produce, film, and edit all my own content, so I am involved in all aspects of my OF content. And since studio work usually includes scripts, storylines, and directors, my goal is to be really professional, efficient, and to get the best content made possible. The two worlds are different. With OF, I know how the end product will look, and with studio work, I generally don’t know until it’s ready to be advertised. I really do enjoy both the OF and studio work.

What do you still want to do in the porn world? Scenes? Scene partners? Sexual activities?

I definitely have more things I want to do with studio work. I’d like to be in more movies, and movies that involve more b-roll and acting. That’s something I initially didn’t know if I would enjoy, but I really love that aspect. I’d also like to travel more to get together with international creators. I have a thing for Latino guys! There are so many guys I’ve seen online that I’d love to work with, excited to make it a reality. I’ve been able to work with studios like Sean Cody, Men.com, Falcon, and some other studios. And from those, I’ve done scenes that I top, bottom, and flip. I enjoy it all, but bottoming is definitely my favorite.

Tell us a little bit about yourself outside of porn. Interests? Hobbies? Beliefs? Passions?

A normal day for me outside of porn includes skincare, gym, baking, and reality TV. I recently got a stand mixer and have been making a lot of cakes, cookies, and cupcakes that I take to my friends. Also, if anyone asks what my favorite part of San Diego is, I always say my friends. They’re my family out here, and I am lucky to have a circle of friends that keep me humble, make me laugh, and inspire me to grow professionally.

Who is the real Joey Dane?

The real Joey Dane is an introverted extrovert, if that makes sense. He can be quiet, but when the camera is on, he can come alive. If you met him on the street, you’d think he was sweet. But the Joey Dane you see online is living with a lot more sexual freedom.

How do you define a true "Porn Star"?

I think a “porn star” is someone who is comfortable putting themselves out there and really cares about the craft and production of their content.

How is Joey Dane going to become one?

Joey Dane is going to be a true porn star by fully committing to creating high-level content and truly having fun doing it.

What is your favorite thing about sex?

Over the years, I’ve realized I am less impressed with the size of anyone and more impressed if they actually know how to use it. Connection is my favorite thing about sex. Locking the eyes and feeling the bodies come together in a beautiful way. I am versatile and typically bottom, but have had a ton of fun topping this year. And if we’re making out and you start kissing behind my ear… my biggest turn on!
