It's the month of Hallopween, and everyone just likes to play dress up! But some really, really shouldn't. Thanks to a recent post on The Advocate's site, we're reminded in time for this week's Throwback Thursday of several times right-wing hypocrites went in drag. RuPaul once famously said, "We're all born naked. Everything else is drag." A statement yer boy Hank here can totally get behind. But sometimes drag is a real drag when it's committed by the likes of conservative politicians and influencers who think it's a big laugh, then turn around and support all manner of anti-queer legislation. Why can't they just play nice?
Cawthorn is the hottie with a soap opera character's name and a wheelchair who lost his reelection bid as a North Carolina congressman a few years ago amid swirling bad press, despite his supposedly foolproof plan to go all in on anti-LBGTQ+ rhetoric. He even went so far as to accuse fellow GOPers of "sexual perversion" and made the claim of being invited to orgies. He was paralyzed in a traffic accident in Florida in 2014, and ironically, last year slammed into the back of a FL state trooper's car. Last month, he was arrested at his home for failure to show up to court to answer for a different driving violation. And now, the "family values" Republican is apparently contemplating another congressional run in FL. “I also cling to a lot of traditional values and a lot of traditional ideas, because they’ve worked in the past.” Uh-huh, sure, Jan.
Ready to lose your lunch? In 2000, Giuliani, then mayor of NYC, and Donald Trump made a comedy sketch video for a charity event. At the time, it was all in good fun, but Trump's behavior in it, going in for a motorboating of Giuliani's fake boobs without permission and then saying "You can't say I didn't try" after being slapped away, makes perfect sense when viewed through the lens of what we now know about him.
Rep. George Santos confesses he did, in fact, dress in drag:

Well, it's all come out in the open since this was first discovered. But it's hilarious now to look back at his defense, that he's "not a drag queen" and "just having fun." The former congressman is currently serving time for fraud. But what was really fraudulent was the fact that he was a sitting Republican who supported Florida's "Don't Say Gay" bills, and voted against marriage equality while married to a man. So gross.
The same guy who signed an anti-drag law barring drag in public and in front of children would like you to forget that he went full drag in public in high school back in the 70s.
TX State Rep. Nate Schatzline once authored a bill requiring any establishment hosting a drag performance to be registered as a "sexually oriented business." An old video shows him in full drag in high school for a theater project. WAIT! Hold up. He's a theater kid?! Y'all know what I'm thinking, right?
This one just might take the cake as far as just how many offensive checkpoints he can tick with this. The former Florida Secretary of State was forced to resign after a video of him at a Halloween party surfaced, showing him not only in drag, but also black face, and as a Hurricane Katrina victim! The video was taken just two months after the storm that hit New Orleans and the Gulf (of America!) coast, killing more than 1800 people. Super gross.
The photos of #JDVance in drag should be posted everywhere. Not because we care about someone in drag, but because of Vance's hypocrisy in trying to crush #LGBT rights while dressing in drag.
This is the Trump-Vance campaign. They want freedoms they promise to end for others. pic.twitter.com/mz0gU376X8

As The Advocate states, our sitting vice president "ran on an anti-LBGTQ+ agenda, has called queer people 'groomers,' and introduced a bill that would have banned transition-related medical care for minors." So, of course, here he is at a party he attended while at Yale Law. "GO BACK TO PARTY CITY WHERE YOU BELONG!"
Sorry if this post made you a bit nauseous. I'll try for something a bit less visually upsetting next week, LOL!
