The Devil You Know: Ben Rush and Alter Sin combine the Scary and the Sexy

BAREBACK

Heading into October, most of us are getting ready for the Halloween season's many scares and spooks. However, it is genius adult filmmakers Ben Rush and Alter Sin who have decided to combine those scares and spooks with a lot of steamy sex. Their new film, The Devil You Know from Raging Stallion Studios, has an all-star cast of gorgeous men who meet under seemingly friendly circumstances. But is everything as it seems?

The famed directors joined us for an interview to give us the scoop on this highly anticipated project!

It sounds like 2025 has been a very prolific year for both of you.

Ben Rush: It’s been a great — albeit busy — year thus far, and I don’t see it slowing down. The Way to a Man’s HeartSpain in the Ass, Wild Game, and The Devil You Know have been labors of love, though, and there are still a few surprises left before the end of 2025. I’ll need to take a month-long nap in January 2026!

Alter Sin: 2025 has truly been a remarkable year, filled with exciting projects. Personally, I couldn’t be happier. I feel very fortunate.

Tell us about your latest project. Title? Style? Genre?

BR: The Devil You Know is a horror-thriller about a satanic cult that explores some very dark themes, but that also plays as a metaphor for modern dating and gay relationships. For example, the devil often represents temptation, rebellion, and the breaking of norms. He becomes a mirror for desires that society sometimes labels as taboo.

AS: One of the most recent projects we worked on together is The Devil You Know. It’s a horror film that also incorporates elements of suspense.

Ben, what was your inspiration (if any) for this story?

BR: My initial idea actually came from a bad date! I began thinking about how some of the things we fear the most aren’t hiding in dark rooms; they can be sitting right across from us at a restaurant table, holding our hands and picking up the checks. It becomes a matter of desire versus danger — what we long for most could be what cuts us the deepest.

It’s interesting how dating can be like a horror maze attraction or a haunted house: the red flags we don’t pay attention to and the secrets we discover long after we’d want to. The Devil You Know stems from that concept.

What made you two want to collaborate on this together? What did you both bring to the table?

BR: I’m always happy to have an opportunity to collaborate with Alter. He’s a masterful technician and always has a unique vision for how a story can be told visually. I love the storytelling aspect — figuring out how to most effectively convey a solid, well-thought-out plot or theme with the time and resources available. It’s a great match.

AS: Working with Ben always guarantees a strong project. He consistently brings fresh ideas and challenging scripts that inspire you to give your very best when filming. It’s truly fantastic to collaborate with someone so dedicated to the craft.

Tell us about your cast and the characters they play.

BR: On their three-month anniversary, new couple Sir Peter and Leander escape to an idyllic European town to strengthen their bond and further explore their intense sexual connection. When they arrive, though, Sir Peter is surprised to find that Leander has invited his close circle of longtime friends, including Paddy O’Brian, Jake Mathews, Adam Tyrant, Ross Hurston, Samuel Hodecker, and John Jai. When Paddy suddenly disappears, unsettling secrets and tensions from the past begin to surface, turning what was meant to be an intimate, romantic weekend into a chaotic nightmare.  As paranoia seeps in and Sir Peter becomes an unwitting guest at this twisted reunion, he is forced to uncover the deadly truth that could end his newfound relationship and, worse, his life.

AS: The casting process was very quick. After many conversations between us, we envisioned a cast of actors who were eager to be part of a project like this and who also had a genuine passion for the horror genre. Every single one of them delivered outstanding work.

Why did you choose them for the particular characters they're playing?

BR: Once Alter and I agree that a script is ready to go, we look at the characters closely to determine who would best be suited to bring them to life. Performers who have proven to be talented actors are important, as narrative films require a high level of believability. Naturally, finding men who fit the brand — in this case, Raging Stallion — and have the raw magnetism and sexual energy to make viewers cum is a top priority, as well.

How is it sharing director duties? Advantages? Challenges?

BR: Alter and I have been able to find a good balance by recognizing our strengths and collaborating in ways that bring the best out of both of us. On big productions, two creative thinkers are a gift in that we can build on each other’s ideas to come up with stories and visuals that are even grander than what we may have considered individually. It’s nice to have a partner-in-crime who is not only talented but who values quality.

In terms of challenges, there are always moments — on any production — in which we have different ideas of how to pull something off. It’s being able to listen and understand an alternate perspective that makes the hiccups easy to manage. It’s imperative to recognize that all parties are on the same team, all there to make the best and sexiest piece of entertainment possible. The end goal is the same — no one is working against each other.

AS: It’s quite an experience. For a few days, it almost feels like a partnership—sometimes there are differences, but the shared goal is always to create the best film possible. That’s where co-directing truly shines: combining our individual strengths and uniting them into a stronger whole.

How did your cast respond to all of this?

BR: The cast of The Devil You Know was amazing, and each showed up ready to give 100%. Everyone was excited about the idea of a horror film and worked overtime to deliver truly admirable performances. The guys all shared a villa during production, so they bonded quickly and created some genuine and meaningful connections. We were all sad to disband at the end, but we are in touch regularly.

AS: I’m certain the cast enjoyed the experience. Many of them we’ve known for a long time, and both Ben and I always strive to foster the best possible environment. Our priority is the production itself and maintaining positive energy among everyone involved.

Ben, did you have any takeaways from Alter's filmmaking techniques? What are some things you have in common as filmmakers? Differences?

BR: Alter and I have done a number of movies together at this point, so we’re familiar with how the other works.  We both have high standards and value close attention to detail, which makes our partnerships shine.

Alter, did you have any takeaways from Ben's filmmaking techniques? What are some things you have in common as filmmakers? Differences?

AS: Ben is truly an artist when it comes to writing. I greatly admire his talent and commitment. He also has a remarkable ability to guide actors, helping them tap into emotions and sensations. He does incredible work with them.

It sounds like this film is quite dark, even a little scary. How do you find the balance between scariness and sexiness?

BR: There are some very dark and scary moments in The Devil You Know, but they’re balanced out by some of the hottest sex you’ll ever see. The key is knowing when to ratchet up the tension and when to let the audience relax and get turned on.

AS: I believe the two can often go hand in hand. In situations where a group experiences fear, there are naturally moments of intimacy and even vulnerability—circumstances where emotions and feelings inevitably come to the surface.

Will we get another Ben Rush & Alter Sin dual project?

BR: You never know what tricks we have up our sleeves!

AS: Time will tell. What I can say is that every time we’ve worked together, the results have been exceptional.
