Ok, let's just get the legalities out of the way. Public sex is illegal. We can't condone illegal activity. But, as gay men, we know that public sex and gay cruising definitely happen and are a part of our sexual liberation. Gay men first adopted cruising because there was no other way for men to connect. There were no chat rooms, no gay clubs, no hookup apps, and so men took to public restrooms and dark corners to get it on. It wasn't necessarily about the sex; many times it was the only time men felt a connection with other men who had same sex feelings. In any case, cruising still continues and can be damn hot. Seeing a hot stud in public, catching his eye, getting hard, and then deciding to have a quick romp in the bathroom is erotic. We have a quick step guide to gay cruising in a store. It can happen at the grocery store, it can happen at the mall (do gays still go to malls?), and it can happen at Target (although we are supposed to have boycotted Target).

Dress the Part

Just like a car at the dealership is all cleaned up and glistening to get attention, that's what you need to do to embark on a hot cruising session. Show off your best body parts, and we do mean all of them. If you are a gym guy and have the biceps to show off, wear a tank top. Wear tight clothes so that a guy can see everything you are offering. Wearing a jockstrap with the strap peeking up above the waistline is a sure-fire way to get attention. Wear shorts or pants that are tight enough to show off your bulge and your ass. If you are feeling extra perky, freeball it. Show that meat swinging away. Again, just be careful of the crowd around you. You don't want to get nailed for indecent exposure. Just make sure your outfit leaves nothing to the imagination and is not subtle when advertising your intentions.

Walk with Purpose

Walk slowly from aisle to aisle, making a stop at each one to see what hot stud is awaiting your company. Put on your best acting face and look like you are forgetting stuff from your shopping list. Do a round around the store and see what guys are worth your dick. If you see a hot guy, walk down the aisle and look for something right next to him.

If you see a hot guy, catch his glance. If he holds your gaze for two hard seconds, he's interested. Just don't be a creeper and stare someone down who is not responsive. If you lock eyes, give a little nod...and a smile. So many gay guys forget to smile while they are cruising. WTF? It is ok to be friendly even during casual sex. Being friendly adds some comfort to stranger sex and can actually elevate the quick connection. If your prey catches your eye, they may still be hesitant to hookup. Try moving down an aisle or to a different aisle and see if they follow up and gaze back.

Seal the Deal

Once you catch someone's eye and it is clear that you are on the prowl, move your head in the direction of the bathroom. Our advice is to check out the bathroom of your hunt beforehand. Figure out the traffic, the ways in and out, and the privacy of the bathroom. You don't want to be caught, you don't want to make straights feel assaulted, and you also want to make it quick. If the bathroom is not an option, maybe some car action if you are parked out of sight of stuff? In any case, seal the deal. You might not get a full hookup session for cruising.
