Grindr Outage Reported During Charlie Kirk's Memorial...Hmmm...

File this under super gay things that make us go hmmmmm...Headlines have been having a field day with reports that Grindr suffered a major outage in Glendale, Arizona, this past Sunday. While Grindr might have glitches here and there, there have been notorious times when the app has had issues. Namely, during the Olympics and during certain Republican conventions. You don't say?!?!?  Well, this Arizona glitch happened to coincide with Charlie Kirk's memorial. Gasp! Of course, it is just a coincidence. Right? RIGHT?

Thousands of people from all over the nation, including top MAGA faux-lebrities, flew into Glendale to attend the extravaganza that was Charlie Kirk's memorial. No matter how you feel about his assassination, the facts are that he regularly presented rhetoric that was anti-LBGTQ. There was no doubt about where he stood on queer issues. The trans community was immediately to blame, with unfounded assumptions, when Kirk was shot.

Downdetector, a popular site where people can report web/app outages, reached a peak in Grindr outage reports from Sunday to Monday, rising from an average of 2 to 200 reports that continued until Monday morning. Just in time for everyone to fly home. Again, just a coincidence. Most of these outages were reported in Glendale. Oops! Another map showed a high outage right around Stare Farm Stadium...where the service was being held.

We rarely get political here; we believe in celebrating queer joy through the celebration of sex as an escape from everything else out there. We know it is a difficult time for our community - politically and socially. We can also acknowledge that gay Republicans can and do exist. But gathering to pay homage to a man who went against our community over and over, and then being hypocritical enough to hookup? Is that a fetish or a turn-on we were unaware of?

One TikToker went viral for showing the activity pre- and during the Kirk memorial on Grindr's competitor app, Sniffies. There was a staggering increase in guys looking to hookup.
