Going to the Gym Isn't Just For Your Muscles

You don't know about you, but this summer was really hard for us to stay committed to fitness and going to the gym. We don't know if it's because we are depressed because of all the political stuff going on, we aren't sure if it's because we are just tired of feeling like we have to keep up with all of the other gays in their summer bodies, or maybe it is because we just feel tired all the time. This summer was rough. On a positive note, we noticed less pressure to be body perfect this summer, especially at Pride parties. We hope gay culture is becoming more accepting of all body types. But for our own health, we definitely felt like we didn't give it our all over the past few months. We decided to kick it in gear and for the past four weeks, really committed ourselves to a workout routine, going to the gym, lifting weights, and eating better. We weren't 100% successful, but we also had a mental shift. We shifted from just trying to build our muscles to porn star quality to just enjoying the process and the other benefits it brought into our lives. We just wanted to share what going to the gym did besides grow our muscles.

After a couple of weeks of sticking to a routine, we felt our clothes fit just a bit better, and we felt a spring in our step. Even though the results after a short time weren't a day and night change in front of the mirror, it had a change from the inside that was just as effective. One word - confidence. Knowing that we were going to the gym made us feel stronger and really added to our confidence. Having more confidence literally affects every aspect of our lives. From being more assertive in our career and relationships, to doing things at 100%, it really added a positive energy in many more places than just the gym. It wasn't about how we looked, but rather how we felt.

One of the sexy parts about going to the gym is the amount of gay cruising that goes on. We aren't saying you need to hook up in the locker room or even need to talk to anyone, but there are a lot of gay guys going to work out, and it feels good to be in a communal space, sweating and working up some hot energy together. It makes us feel like we are part of a sexy club. And yes, we also did get some dates from sticking to our routine. The assumption that gays at the gym are mean girls probably does have legit instances, but, for the most part, we've just experienced a gay social group that is happy to see regulars around them. Another sexy part of sticking to your gym routine is that it really does make sex better. It is not just about the added confidence in your body, but it is about the testosterone traveling through your body, it is about growing your cardio stamina, and it is about not feeling low energy and being able to get hard when you aren't carrying around a gut.

Sticking to our gym routine (for the most part) also helped us in other life routines. We stuck to doing our laundry when we needed to, we stuck to our going out budget, we stuck to getting through our workload, and we stuck to other routines that are important to keep up with in life. It just helped us commit and get in the mindset. Just go, just get it done, it 100% feels better to have completed what you need than to just sit there and wonder what if you actually stuck to something.

So continue that routine of yours, not just to serve a body ideal, but to make your whole life a bit better. Even if you aren't 100% successful, it is a move in the right direction. As Nike says, just do it, bitch!
