The Art of Cruising

In today's tech age, most of us gays are finding our hookups on any of the available apps like Grindr or Sniffies. But there is still a faction of our community that relies on good, old-fashioned cruising. There's something about the thrill of naughty sex found in public places. To be clear, public sex is illegal, but it still happens. Before the tech days, cruising was about the only way gay men could connect for sex. If you use Sniffies, you can see all of the hookup/cruising places around you. You might be surprised how many places guys are meeting up. We certainly know our way around a hot cruise session, so we thought we'd share some of our tips.

Know Your Surroundings

As we said, public sex is illegal, so you should definitely be familiar with your surroundings. Scope out certain areas from afar and watch the traffic. Although shady places might be more alluring as an idea, you definitely want to be safe. If an area seems sketchy, go with your gut and avoid it. Fun cruising shouldn't come at the expense of your safety.

Be Discrete

You don't want to draw attention to your cruising session. Police catch wind of places that become popular for cruising. Lie low and don't let anyone catch you. If you are a loud moaner, keep it for the bedroom. Part of the thrill of public cruising is being secretive and getting away with it quietly.

Outfit and Accessories

Don't wear a fancy outfit, and don't wear something with a lot of layers. You want to wear something that can come off and on easily, for fast action. You also don't want to be worried about getting your outfit dirty or stained. A simple t-shirt and sweatpants work well. With sweatpants, you can literally stretch the pants down and unleash. Also, freeballing in sweats can advertise what you've got and what you are looking for in a sexy way. When we see a guy freeballing, we know he wants action. Leave the expensive jewelry and sunglasses at home. Things might get lost or stolen. What you do need to bring is a travel-size lube bottle, poppers (if you use them), and condoms (if you use them). Don't go hunting without these essentials. And no, spit is not lube.

Eye Contact/Smiling

You don't want to be a creeper leering at guys in the local bathroom. But you also want to appear available to potential cruisers. Make eye contact with someone you think is cruising. Use the three-second rule. If he looks away in less than three seconds, he's either not interested or not looking. Don't force yourself on anyone; that's a sure-fire way to get caught/reported. If a guy holds your stare for three seconds, give him a smile. Why don't more guys smile while cruising? Just because you are looking for a hookup doesn't mean you can't be friendly. Smiling at someone can put them at ease and show the guy you can get sexy and friendly. A quick nod to a cruiser can let them know you are up for action. Again, be aware of the people around you and your surroundings. Be very certain that someone is into it and that no one is going to catch you before taking your dick out.

Have fun while cruising; the hunt can be a lot of fun. Just keep your eyes open and go with your gut. Not every outing is going to end up with a hot hookup, don't make something happen just to hookup. Just be safe and be aware. And tell us your cruising stories!
