Sex In the Summer, Accessories for the Heat
Ah, yes, the heat of the summer turns up, and so does our libido! We love a hot, sweaty sex session, and with all of the Pride celebrations, summer travel, pool parties, and amped up horniness, there seem to be more opportunities for hot hookups. But there are other things to consider when the temperature rises, and some of your go-to sex practices may be affected by the heat and sun. Here at Fleshbot Gay, we always want you to explore and celebrate your sexuality, so here are some of our tips for summer sex.
When the temperatures rise, your body temperature can affect your hydration levels. When you get dehydrated, there is a bigger risk for increased friction due to lower natural lubrication levels. We all know what happens when you have anal sex without some good lubrication: it hurts, and you can cause some skin damage with tears in your anus. This isn't just about discomfort; getting tears in your butt puts you at a bigger risk of getting an STI.
We all have our go-to lubes, but you might want to consider changing the game during the summer. In the heat, water-based lubes can be less effective and not ideal for longer summer sex sessions. During the high heat, stick to silicone lube. It will last longer in heat and will remain slicker. If you are using condoms, avoid oil-based lubrication as the oil breaks down the latex.
In the age of PrEP and Doxy, many of us forgo condoms. But, condoms are a huge safety factor to consider keeping in your regimen, especially during high sex season peaks, like summer. Condoms can be very tricky during high heat temperatures. While it seems convenient, don't keep condoms in your wallet or glove compartment. These are heat areas, and they will break down. Also, if you aren't used to using condoms on the regular but still have them just in case, make sure you swap them out, even if you haven't used them. Also, check the expiration date. Some condom brands have temperature-resistant wrappers; those are ideal. There are many organizations that will have condoms on hand at Prides, sex clubs, and festivals. Just be aware these are usually handled in bulk and might be exposed to temperatures or go stale.
You might think that having sex in a pool or shower is lube enough. It is not, especially when using a condom. Sweat, water, and sunscreen can all degrade a condom, and they can also cause condom slippage very easily. Water does not equal lube during sex. It can do the opposite.
Partying it up during summer can also mean more alcohol intake. This also dehydrates you and can affect your hot sex encounter. Again, when your body is dehydrated, you are more prone to friction and tears. But you can also get heat stroke when engaging in sessions of hot pounding.
Drink your Gatorade, up your lube game, and pack a condom or two, and go forth and have hot gay summer sex!
