Andrew Christian Announces Retirement, Company To Close
It is fitting that Andrew Christian, founder of Andrew Christian International, has made a major announcement as Pride season commences. Andrew Christian and his models have been a big part of many Pride events across the globe for over two decades. This morning, social media and news outlets went crazy with the news that, after 25 years in the industry, Andrew announced his retirement and the closure of his company.

Andrew has become the patron saint of men's underwear and became a trailblazer in the fashion industry by coming out of the closet and catering to queer men. This started a revolution, and the likes of Ginch Gonch and Aussie Bum joined the ranks of being out and proud underwear lines. The Andrew Christian has become an empire, crossing over into mainstream, and Andrew has become a fixture in queer and pop culture, appearing on reality TV, talks shows, and more.
We chatted with Andrew directly this morning, as the news broke out. He calls the closure of his business "bittersweet." The company will come to a close shortly after the Fall/Winter line, Bespoke, is unveiled in October. He issued us this statement:
For over 25 years, fashion was my voice when the world tried to silence me. Every stitch has been a love letter to my LGBTQ family—an act of survival turned celebration. As I prepare to close this chapter with my final collection, I do so with deep gratitude and pride. This isn’t goodbye—it’s a transformation. — Andrew Christian
At this moment, it isn't clear what that transformation means, but you'd better get your undies now before they become a collector's item. The brand has far exceeded being just an underwear line. It has branched off into an eco-friendly, erotic, fluid, and larger-sized variety of garments - skirts, harnesses, swimsuits, lace tanks, cuffs, joggers, anything a gay man could want in their closet. The company has also branched off into sex toys and makeup for men. It is indeed sad to see the end of Andrew's empire in sight, especially with all the changes and turmoil the queer community is going through. But we know Andrew personally, and we are confident that his next era will continue his legacy with purpose and sexiness.
In his statement on the company's website, he talks about his meager beginnings, growing up in Section 8 housing, and being bullied for his ethnicity and his sexuality. He started sketching and stitching as an escape, making fashions for himself that he felt celebrated. He also talks about his journey to becoming the owner of his destiny and offers words of encouragement to the younger generation:
To the young queer dreamers clutching sketchbooks in the corners of rooms not built for you—I see you. Your hands may tremble now, but they will one day shape worlds. The very difference that makes you feel alone today will become your greatest strength—your signature on everything you create. Trust your instinct, even when the path feels impossible. Take the terror and hope we all carry in our youth, and stitch them into something breathtaking.
It isn't over yet, we still have Pride looks and undies to enjoy, and we wish him well and can't wait to see what else he has in store. Thank you for the years of activism, fashion, and hot bulges!
