US Citizens Lured & Kidnapped In Mexico Using Dating Apps

¡Ay, caramba! Reports are surfacing that criminals in Mexico are using dating apps to lure and kidnap visiting US citizens. The U.S. Consulate General Guadalajara issued a warning that crimes using apps were happening in Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Nayarit areas. Puerto Vallarta has become one of the biggest hot spots for both gay and straight tourists.

According to reports, users were told to meet up at residences or hotel rooms and then kidnapped. The victims and their family members have been extorted for large sums of money to be freed. Even though traveling warnings were issued, it hasn't been reported just how many cases have taken place, or if any suspects have been brought in.

It also hasn't been revealed what dating apps or the sexuality of the victims has been. Being so secretive about these details makes us believe there may be some gay hookup apps and gay tourists in question. Being a conservative nation, Mexico is slow to report on openly gay situations. But that is just our opinion; nothing is confirmed.

Mexican officials suggest caution when using any dating apps while visiting, and urge people to tell friends or family where they are going, what apps they are using, and details about who they are meeting. They also warn against meeting in private places, suggesting that meeting first in a public place would be the best option. FYI, 911 emergency calls work in Mexico.

The state of Jalisco (home to Puerto Vallarta) is now at a Level 3: Reconsider Travel because of crime and kidnappings. The state of Nayarit is at a Level 2: Exercise Caution due to crime. During Covid, Puerto Vallarta had a major boom from gay travelers. Since then, it has become the go-to destination spot with queer celebs, nightclubs, and hotels springing up all over the place. Gay mega-entrepreneur Tristan Schukraft, new owner of the world-famous Abbey, new owner of many commercial areas in Fire Island, and hotelier in Puerto Rico, has also established a thriving hotel, Tryst, in Puerto Vallarta.

We know that gay dating apps have been used by criminals all over the world. It has happened in the US, and even officials in Russia have used Grindr to round up gay men. The problem is, when using the apps, many of us are thinking with our dick and not with our brains and many times will over look red flags. And many of us have been invited to sketchy scenes just to get some of the best D around. Sigh. The struggle is real.

If you get a weird feeling about a potential hookup, go with your gut. Take precautions and tell your gay bestie where you are going to be bent over.
