Trump Administration Gets Rid of Pride Month

Happy Pride Month! Um, sorry. Happy XI Month! From the desk of a man who wears more bronzer than most gays in a lifetime, Trump's administration has officially declared that June is not to celebrate Pride, but rather to celebrate Title XI. Pride Month is not a thing anymore.

The US Department of Education issued this statement regarding the deletion of Pride Month:

"The U.S. Department of Education (the Department) today announced that it is recognizing June as 'Title IX Month' in honor of the fifty-third anniversary of Title IX of the Educational Amendments (1972) being signed into law. June will now be dedicated to commemorating women and celebrating their struggle for, and achievement of, equal educational opportunity. Throughout the month, the Department will highlight actions taken to reverse the Biden Administration's legacy of undermining Title IX and announce additional actions to protect women in line with the true purpose of Title IX."

Interesting that they are focusing on equality while taking Pride away from millions of Americans, not that this statement will stop any of our nationwide celebrations already in full swing. Here at Fleshbot Gay HQ, we just spent three crazy days at WeHo Pride. The statement also went on to announce that Title IX Month would be kicked off with investigations into the University of Wyoming and Jefferson County Public Schools in Colorado for reportedly allowing males to join and live in female-only intimate and communal spaces.

So, Title IX is getting some stardom. But what exactly is it? Title IX is one of the federal civil rights laws that make up the Education Amendments of 1972. Basically, Title IX is meant to work against discrimination based on gender, focusing on equal rights for women. It officially reads as:

"No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance."

The administration is smart by replacing Pride Month with Title IX Month, although the title is less than sexy. Yes, the queer community is slighted by this move, but is anyone surprised? They are cunning by putting focus on equal rights for women, who can argue with the importance of that? It is a smart move. Very interesting to focus on women when we know how the head of our administration treats women. Grab 'em by the meow!

So let everyone celebrate Title IX Month. No one can take away our Pride.
