Queer Americans Are More Likely To Be Into Astrology, By A Lot!

Are you one of those gays who is constantly checking your horoscope or running to the local psychic to get your tarot cards read? Well, according to a recent study, more of us queer Americans are doing the same thing. In fact, LGBTQ Americans are twice as likely to be into astrology as the rest of the nation.

The Pew Research Center conducted a study with 10,000 Americans, diving into tarot and astrology habits. 28% of Americans consult astrology at least once a year, as compared to 54% of queer Americans. Also, LGBTQ folk are three times as likely to refer to tarot cards, as compared to 11% of straight-identifying Americans. And among the queer community, women are more likely than men to consult astrology. 21% of queer Americans stated that they relied on astrology and tarot when it came to making big life decisions.

And why are queer folk so interested in astrology? Well, many of us have not had the best relationship with religion, as many of the structured religions have not always had the most open or accepting view of LGBTQ people. Yes, this has been slowly changing and many faiths welcome queer congregants, but the tentpole religions are still strict when it comes to gay marriage. Astrology is a way to feel connected with spirituality, without the rules and restrictions of religion.

Also, astrology is very individual-based. Many queer people can explore their identity freely in the world of astrology, free of restrictions of sexuality and gender norms. Most queer people report that they have a strong sense of self in the worlds of astrology and tarot and feel connected to a bigger energy source, not under the guise of a Bible-presenting god. Queer people feel connected to the Earth, the stars, and the people around them through the teachings and ideals of astrology. Astrology charts have been used as a road map to understand the past and the future, not through Bible stories and sermons. The world of astrology is very fluid.

Also, the world of astrology has been in total evolution since its early beginnings. The language and messages have adapted to remain modern and effective in the present day. Many of the texts of major religions are old, and interpretations of ancient beliefs and science are not always relatable to modern-day issues. Astrology and tarot continue to evolve to be used in everyday life. Astrology as a whole is becoming more and more popular as many people, regardless of LGBTQ identity, are finding structured religion as out of touch. Astrology is open to all, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, class, or nationality.

Are you an astrology-loving queer?
