OnlyFans Users Could Face Prison In Sweden!

How do you say, "Oh, man!" in Swedish? Well, in global adult news, if you are in Sweden and you are an OnlyFans subscriber, you may face some prison time. Huh, what? There are some new adult content laws coming into play that state if you watch a live sex show (that many OnlyFans content creators offer to their subscribers), it is the same as soliciting a sex worker. Paying for sex is illegal in Sweden.

This law will go into effect on July 1st. The law gets a bit more aggressive and also makes it illegal if you profit from sexual acts being paid for on demand, or if you promote anyone who does. Government officials believe that on-camera live sex shows are the same as sex purchase, and that laws need to be updated to include the digital adult world as it evolves.

As many of us in the industry know, a big chunk of OnlyFans income is generated from live shows, where the content creators can interact with their Fans directly and fulfill their fantasies. There is no physical touch, so why is it being considered sex purchase? Just because it is live, how does it differ from watching porn? Violators of the new law can face up to one year in prison.

Just like the many restrictions on adult content that are happening here in the States, Sweden politicians believe that it is not about targeting sex workers, but that they are protecting youth from accessing adult content. Online adult content is being compared to online exploitation. The law was supported by the majority of Sweden's Parliament, regardless of party.

There is also talk by Sweden politicians to ban OnlyFans entirely. Social Democrat politician Annika Strandhäll told Swedish newspaper Expressen: “It is a forum where sexual services are also sold. Pr*stitution or the sex trade is constantly taking new forms, and it is important that politicians and legislators keep up with the developments that are taking place. We protect our children in many different ways from gaining access to different things that are not appropriate in our society. For example, if they go to a gambling site, or from having access to alcohol or similar."

Who knows how far the restrictions on OnlyFans will go in Sweden? Will this start a domino effect in other nations? Here in the US, we've already reported about Pornhub and even Fleshbot pulling out of certain States due to adult website restrictions. For sure, this is a crazy time. Can you imagine how the adult content creator industry would be affected by an OnlyFans ban?
