MISTR Cuts STI Positivity Rates in Half

This week is STI Awareness Week in the US. In honor of keeping us informed about sexual health, the gay-owned platform MISTR released some pretty good news. In just one year of providing free DoxyPEP to patients across the nation, they have reduced STI positivity rates by more than 50%.

In the last year, over 74% of patients have bundled DoxyPEP with their PrEP prescriptions. If you didn't know, Doxy helps with STI prevention, and PrEP helps with HIV prevention. MISTR has become very popular in the gay community. With everything done online and via mail, it cuts down on going to the doctor's office and makes it pretty discreet.

The CEO of MISTR, Tristan Schukraft (who also owns the world-famous Abbey nightclub and most of Fire Island), put out a statement: “The science is clear—DoxyPEP works. PrEP works. The problem isn’t awareness, it’s access. We’ve built a platform that patients actually want to use. We’ve removed the stigma, the waiting rooms, the paperwork—and we’re seeing real results.”

MISTR currently represents over 500,000 patients in all 50 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico. In addition to free PrEP and DoxyPEP, they also offer long-term HIV care and in-home STI testing for English and Spanish consumers. The process is taken care of via telehealth and has a presence in the nation's most high-impact LGBTQ+ communities for those most in need, including areas in the South. They also have a strong presence in the Black and Latino population, where HIV and STI rates are still extremely high.

For STI Awareness Week, the CDC released the following information:

  • Over 68 million people in the U.S. have an STI at any given time.
  • Yet only 2.4 million cases were officially reported in 2023.
  • Only 1 in 4 people at risk for HIV are prescribed PrEP.
  • Among Black Americans—the group most impacted by new HIV diagnoses—just 13% of eligible individuals are on PrEP.

MISTR doesn't just provide medical help. They are also a strong community partner. They have collaborated with over 65 nonprofit organizations, and their services help those who are uninsured. Its reach aligns directly with CDC Priority Jurisdictions and Ending the HIV Epidemic goals—demonstrating that prevention not only works, it scales.

MISTR has shared its plans for the future and the implementation of a long-acting injectable PrEP. After it gets approval, it will be integrated into its existing platform, giving patients more options to stay healthy.

The marketing team behind MISTR certainly knows its market. You may see their hot models at a number of Pride and LGBTQ events across the nation. Their models walk around in super small undies with the MISTR logo. We certainly take a good, long look.
