Olympic Runner Yared Nuguse Comes Out...with His Boyfriend
As we know, queer representation in sports is limited. So, when we find out an athlete has come out, we share it loud and proud! Olympic runner Yared Nuguse recently came out...and he didn't just come out, he CAME OUT complete with a boyfriend. When we came out, we had a sticky copy of Playgirl and a Madonna CD as our companions. No, we aren't jealous at all. LOL. Yared took to Instagram to announce his coming out and that he had a boyfriend. Double whammy!

Yared shared that he and his boyfriend, Julian, had been together for one year. He also stated that no one should be surprised. Sassy! His social media was flooded with congratulations. Among the comments was a big heartfelt thank you to Yared for his visibility at such a difficult time for the queer community. Another fan commented that visibility is key. Indeed.

He studied and ran for the University of Notre Dame, initially wanting to study to be a dentist. Yared is a true smarty pants other than a consummate athlete. He got his bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 2021 and a year later, a master's degree in management. During his time at Notre Dame, he set a bunch of running records.

Most recently, he set a world record in the indoor mile, a title he held for five days. We can't wait to see where his sports career takes him and now that he has come out, how much of an advocate he and his boyfriend will be for queer representation in sports.
