Bratting in BDSM: Gay Kinks Explained
Although we know a lot about gay sex and gay kinks (and trust us, we do know a lot), we are always finding out new things to explore. You've heard of the brat summer phenomenon as inspired by Charli XCX with the intention of going out and living your best life and eff what people think. Well, have you heard of bratting in the BDSM world? We hadn't either. But we did a deep for this edition of Gay Kinks Explained. Now let's get bratty!
So in the world of bratting, there are brats (the submissives) and brat tamers (the dominant). Just like a brat in real life, the submissive will, in a playful manner, challenge their dominant by talking back, not following orders, and give some resistance in order to elicit a reaction from their partner.
It's all about personality and building a deeper bond between the submissive and the dominant. Bratting is done in a humorous way, and it heightens the control and dominance the top has to contribute in order to overcome the resistance. The back-and-forth play done in bratting opens up communication and ultimate dominance. The brat will make their dominant work harder and put more effort into the scenario. They have to prove their worth as a top and prove they can overpower a brat. It is a challenge.
Rather than being merely a submissive, a brat gets more attention. There's an added pleasure not just by being dominated, but being overpowered after resistance, there is a double dominance happening here. The dominants can get pleasure by being tested and having to increase their level of play in order to tame a brat.
There are different levels of bratting. Trying to give your partner a blowjob or running around naked while they are on a business Zoom call can be considered being a brat. Mocking your top is also being a brat, questioning their ability or intensity of whatever it is that they are doing. Not listening to directions completely on purpose can also be considered bratting.
According to experts, a good session must have a sense of humor and plenty of patience. There needs to be a strong between the two players and good communication. As with any form of BDSM, limits and safe words should be put into place for when the brat is being too much of a brat. (Can we say brat one more time?) Also, it is recommended to check in after a bratting session. With the mocking that can happen in a session, partners might have their feelings hurt for real, and so some damage control may need to occur.
Some of us have been engaging in this type of behavior in daily life and in the bedroom, we didn't know that we were being kinky!
