Out Basketball Player Stud Derrick Gordon Announces Retirement
Athlete Derrick Gordon made gay history by becoming the first out gay player in Division 1 men’s college basketball history. After a decade long career, he announced that he is retiring, content at his career and proud of his trailblazing for future queer athletes.
He took to Instagram:
“Being the first openly gay division one college basketball player to come out publicly and playing professionally in Europe in Cyprus and Germany. I have no regrets and satisfied with my entire basketball career. Along the way I inspired a lot of people and I will continue to keep being the trailblazer that I am. I will always love the game of basketball and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Memories that will last forever.”

Derrick was an outstanding basketball player in high school. He then went on to play at the University of Massachusetts and helped the team win 10 straight games in a row. Derrick was afraid to come out, although his teammates had started to suspect that he was gay. There was a picture on social media with Derrick and his boyfriend at the time at a gay bar.

Derrick was inspired by other out athletes and at the end of his first season, finally came out to his team. His teammates were completely supportive and Derrick said that it felt like a huge weight had been lifted off his shoulders.

A few years later he moved to Cyprus and signed his first pro contract. His team was completely receptive to his sexuality. After his time with that team, he went to play in Germany, again, having a good relationship with this team as an out gay man.

And sorry, boys, he's taken. The two have a very public relationship and have been seen at the GLAAD Media Awards and other queer events, with Derrick using his platform to bring awareness to the sports industry. It looks like Derrick has a thing for more mature men. Hot!
