Men's Fashion at the Oscars: Our Yaassses and Passes
Another Oscars has come and gone, the gays are in an uproar that Wicked didn't win more golden statues. Honestly, we just watched it for the fashion. And we have plenty of opinions. The good? We love that men are exploring more choices other than just the traditional black tuxedo option. We also love that both queer and straight celebrities are really mixing things up and adding flair that, to some, might be considered feminine. Anything goes is what is happening on the red carpet, and it is not just for the women anymore. The meh? Some of the guys went way overboard in trying to be avant-garde and it just looks a bit messy. Of course, we are reporting this while in sweats, a questionably clean tank top, and one sock. So chic. Here's our take on the yaassses and passes from this year's red carpet.
Bowen Yang

Ok, Bowen was giving some Ozdust Ballroom finery for the Oscars. It is a nod to his role in Wicked, it is shiny, it is embroidered, we love it! It is queer chic. If we were to have one complaint, it is the lack of the bow tie. We know times are progressing, but we still aren't there with the no bow tie at the Oscars look.
Timothée Chalamet

We hate to critique twink Timothée, but it is our duty to be gayley honest. This outfit makes him look like he's the lost brother on Dumb and Dumber. Sigh. We love the bold choice to go with color, but the shade and the fit and the wrinkly pants just don't scream Oscar nominee.
Jeff Goldblum

Also giving us some Oz flair was Jeff Goldblum. He played with color and flair and we think it looks sleek, sexy, and classy. This is Oscars chic.
Joe Locke

Oh, Joe! What happened? We love this twink's attempt at glitz, but the mismatch of the colors and the type of vest makes it look like he got a challenge to piece together an outfit from a thrift store. This just doesn't work for us.
Kit Connor

Joe's Heartstopper co-star Kit got the memo. It takes a certain gent who can pull off a double-breasted jacket with wide colors. He does it splendidly. It is classy and the shiny material, brooch, and wide lapels add the right amount of flair.
Omar Apollo

We love Omar Apollo, let's just say that. This outfit could have worked on so many levels but, for us, just missed the mark. We love the different patterns, the overall fit. The tie scarf is too big and makes him look messy and frumpy. If it was a bit thinner and shorter it would have looked classy. We also don't care for the hair net. With a different outfit it may have worked. But it looks like he grabbed it by chance on his way to the Oscars. Just doesn't fit the vibe.
Colman Domingo

What can we say about Colman? He is a fashion god. There is not one red carpet that he doesn't dominate. This is pushing the envelope of Oscars chic and he does it well. We love the color, the cut, the style, the everything. Gents, if you want to flair it up in a fancy way, this is how you do it.
Andrew Garfield

Again, we just get over the no tie at the Oscars thing. This color and style of suit makes it look a bit tacky, like he was going to a 70s prom. It just doesn't cut it for us. Sorry, Andrew!
Cillian Murphy and Adrien Brody

This one is a two-fer. Cillian, who the hell picked out your tux? Did your tailor go on strike? This is a no go. As far as Adrien Brody, total class, fits his skinny frame, and the brooch is classy and distinguished. Congrats.
Robert Downey Jr and Kieran Culkin

Ok, our grand finale two-fer. Robert Downey Jr looks amazing in that tux. We love the cut in the front and the right amount of glitz to make his outfit stand out, but also remain classy. Kieran...meh. The tint of blacks don't match so it looks like he just threw random items of clothing together thinking it was matching...it doesn't. Also, that plastic thing hanging out of his pocket, it probably has some meaning for him, but fashion-wise, no.
