Isaac Humphries, the Only Out Gay Pro Basketball Player In the World

Surprisingly (or not surprising) enough, after two years from coming out, Isaac Humphries remains the only out gay pro basketball player in the world. This Australian hottie sat down with Men’s Health Australia to chat about his career and life after coming out. About being the only out queer basketball pro, he said, "it still weighs very heavily on me."

He talked about being proud to spearhead the way for other gay athletes, but there is a lot of pressure on him in a sports field that is very reticent to come out. Isaac goes on to share that the basketball environment remains very homophobic, almost on a daily basis. He clocks in at 7 feet tall, we can't imagine anyone wanting to get in his way. He reached that height when he was only 16!

Isaac played rugby before getting into basketball at the age of 12. He was playing around the world by the time he was 17. He actually came to the States for a bit, playing for the University of Kentucky on the Kentucky Wildcats team. He was named in the NCAA All-Regional tournament team.

In addition to being a consummate athlete, he's also a cabaret singer and performed at the Adelaide Fringe last year and this year. He started studying music in his early youth, playing the violin at age 4, then going on to piano and trumpet. Before getting heavily into basketball, he was seen on stages around Sydney. He recently released his single, "Need Someone." He's got some great pipes!

Currently, he is playing for the Adelaide 36ers of the National Basketball League. He's fun to watch play, and his height makes the basket look super small.

Because we are nosey, we had to check to see if Isaac had a boyfriend. He was on a podcast this last summer and said he was ready to find a long-term partner, although his days are pretty busy from start to end, so finding love is tricky. He also said if you see him on the dating apps, it is a good chance it is really him. Um, let's try roaming on Grindr!
