In the sports world, the gays are slowly making a splash! This last Olympics, we saw a record of out LGBTQ athletes, which should only increase considering the next Olympics will be in Los Angeles...near West Hollywood! The fact is, more and more athletes our coming out each month in all of the sports fields. We're here, we're queer, and we look good in sports uniforms! In record-making news, the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) has signed the first out wrestler ever, and he's hot and sassy! Si hi to Aaron Rourke, aka Evil Gay!

The WWE was founded in 1953 as the Capitol Wrestling Corporation. After many interactions it was rebranded as simple WWE in 2011. The WWE has given us some truly hot men like The Rock and John Cena. Watching muscled, sweaty guys jump all over each other while wearing skimpy little briefs with butts and bulges hanging out might seem like a gay old time, but the organization, fueled by a pretty hetero fan base, has remained very straight in its representation. Are times changing?

Aaron “Evil Gay” Rourke has been included in the WWE's ID program. In this program, the WWE provides trainers and a creative team to help independent wrestlers reach ultimate exposure and fandom. In exchange, the company maintains exclusive rights to career contracts. We have seen other athletes out of the WWE who have been gay or bi, but they didn't come out until leaving the organization. You go, Aaron Rourke! AND! He's not afraid to sass it up in the ring.

Rourke is a Long Island native and started playing football in his youth before becoming a dancer. He was always taken by pro wrestling but because of the type of queer representation at that time, did not think a professional career in the field was possible. He went to school and majored in anthropology. He lived close to Create A Pro, a pro wrestling academy, and started his journey there. At first, he was wary of incorporating the glitter and flamboyant side of his "Evil Gay" persona, but realized he had to be true to himself and added it to the ring.

Since going pro in 2018, he's earned many titles including CW Heavyweight Champion, CAP TV Champion and WrestlePro Silver Champion, and appeared in independent promotions like Beyond Wrestling, Chaotic Wrestling, GCW, and Limitless Wrestling.

Now that he's in the WWE promotion program, it will be interesting to see what they do with his brand. Evil Gay may set fans off, and as far as gay representation, do we want to be seen as evil? Now that he's WWE, he's pretty much giving his brand up to the company. How will the fans accept him? How will the other wrestlers react to him in the ring? This will all be interesting to see unfold. Congrats, Aaron! Thank you for having the courage to be the first and represent!
