Movie News: Joke Flops, James Dean Is Gay, Prince Diaries Is Back, & More!

I'm your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little hungover. Ok here’s this week's movie news as I see it!

Yikes! Joker: Folie à Deux was ripped to shreds by the movie critics and audiences alike. Just take a look around social media and you’ll see not even the die-hard Gaga fans liked it. The sequel came in at more than twice the budget the first film did, but did not have anywhere near an opening weekend like the original. The sequel will need to make at least $450 million to end up in the black. Word of mouth will not help the film for a second weekend. Oy!

Another movie that didn’t fare so well according to Rotten Tomatoes is the latest adaptation of Salem’s Lot on Max. This Stephen King story didn’t even get a 50% score on the website. This film was originally going to come out in theaters, but maybe the studio realized it wasn’t going to be a success. It was boring. Like how do you make a vampire movie boring?

A sleeper movie that has become a hit is Wolfs, reuniting Hollywood pals Brad Pitt and George Clooney. It has already become the most-watched movie in the history of Apple TV+. This was actually originally intended for a theatrical release. Now with this successful reunion, there are talks about a possible additional Ocean’s film.

Hollywood hottie Matt Damon is returning as Jason Bourne for the Bourne 6 movie. Not much is known about the storyline and the script is still being worked on. We are glad to see Matt back in action, he is so hot in this franchise!

Also returning to a popular franchise, Anne Hathaway is confirmed to be coming back for Princess Diaries 3. Nothing has been announced on other returning actors, although Julie Andrews expressed doubt that she would return for another movie.

Actor Tobin Bell confirmed that he will return as Jigsaw for the upcoming Saw XI. This franchise just goes on and on forever! Even though his character died early on, he has been able to come back with some fanciful storylines.

A blast from the past is getting a jolt of popularity due to the Beetlejuice craze and Halloween. Edward Scissorhands placed in the top 5 streaming movies on Hulu. We love the movie and it’s a throwback to when Tim Burton made great movies and Johnny Depp wasn’t so crazy.

There’s a Boy George biopic in the works and will be executive-produced by the musician himself. The script is being based on George’s autobiographies and is being penned by JC Lee, who wrote Love, Victor and The Morning Show, so it’s in pretty good hands. No actor choices have been made to play BG yet, although he did suggest actress Sophie Tucker from Game of Thrones. Interesting.

Another musician getting the biopic treatment is Robbie Williams. The trailer for Better Man was released and covers three decades of Wiliams’ life. He is portrayed as a chimpanzee. Huh, what? Um, ok.

There’s a movie on the way that will address James Dean’s romantic relationship with a guy he met at college. It will not shy away from the gay romance and is based on the book written by Dean’s lover. No word yet on casting.

First looks have been revealed for The Conjuring: Last Rites movie. Hollywood stud Patrick Wilson will return with Vera Farmiga for this last installment of the franchise. The last few Conjuring movies haven’t been all the great, but hey, we like looking at Wilson’s bubble butt.

The live-action Snow White movie has gotten a lot of flack. Some people were not happy with the casting of Rachel Zegler in the lead role, saying that Disney was becoming too woke. Then actors like Peter Dinklage took offense to the casting of CGI dwarves. The trailer looks…interesting. There has been a major story change that will likely cause more racial backlash. She is not called Snow White because of the color of her skin anymore, she is called Snow White because of a snow storm she survives.
