Adult Circumcision: The Pros and Cons

Cut or uncut? That seems to be a leading question on the gay hookup apps. While some of us have terrible memories of being taunted in the locker room in our youth for being uncut, there is a large population of gay men who love and fetishize uncut dicks. We've seen more and more uncut cocks represented in gay porn. Yet, some gays still get a bit weirded out by dealing with someone who hasn't been circumcised. This topic came up during a happy hour last week as one of our friends announced that at age 42, he was going to have an adult circumcision. Apparently, a few hookups he had stopped when they realized that his foreskin didn't pull all the way back. This opened a can of worms and we all talked about it extensively. It got us to thinking so we did some research and here we are.

According to the National Library of Medicine, 80.5% of males aged 14-59 years in the United States are circumcised. The biggest determining factor in newborn circumcision is the father's cut or uncut status. Circumcision remains the most popular medical procedure in the US. They do report that in the last two decades, circumcision has gone down. A lot still has to do with religious and cultural background. There are health benefits, but those aren't the biggest consideration when dealing with a newborn.

If you are uncut like some of us, you know that the sensation on the cock head when exposed is amazing. Sensation at the tip of cut cocks is lessened due to tougher skin and less nerve endings. For size queens, an uncut dick can look larger and thicker because of the added skin. That being said, uncut cocks need more attention when it comes to cleaning and hygiene, oils and bacteria can build up and can cause really nasty effects. The hooded effect keeps the dick head moist, so sometimes uncut gays don't need much lubrication when jerking off or topping. Health-wise, uncut dicks are more likely to incur a urinary tract infection as well as develop penile cancer.  Unfortunately for the uncut tops, being uncircumcised can you put you at a higher risk of contracting HIV from anal sex. There's also the factor of cosmetic preference.  Because society and porn have told us that cut cocks are common, some gays don't like the look or know how to deal with an uncut dick. The foreskin is sensitive and needs special attention during blow jobs and anal sex. Also, the level of how the foreskin retracts can differ, and you can't force the skin back during sexual activities or it can cause pain or bleeding.

Ok, so adult circumcision. While there may be health benefits for a newborn, other than what we discussed there are really no reasons to get the snip as an adult. But for cosmetic reasons, many still do. For adults, the procedure can take about a half hour to an hour. The skin will be cut, then cauterized or stitched back to the shaft with sutures that will dissolve. Most patients go home the same day. There will be bruising and swelling around your dick, you will need to use an ice pack on your crotch about every two hours for the first day or two. Basic recovery takes about two to three weeks and you can return to normal activity, like working out, in about four weeks. For jerking off and having sex, you will need to wait about six weeks. Pain is reported to be mild, with slight pain medication being issued after the surgery. There is a risk of infection, as there is with any surgery, and also the foreskin can attach itself to the shaft improperly, needing more surgery.

All in all, it makes us grimace at the thought of a scalpel coming at our dick. But in the end, it is your decision and if being uncut weighs heavily on your mind, there are popular procedures in place.
